Well, we know that the Overdrive/Overkill system has been removed completely for a brand new system. And that there is no summoning in this game and that is why Yuna is using machina guns in the game. However, weapons such as daggers and swords will still be used. It is believed that Rikku will use daggers and Pain will use swords as the logo suggests.
There is a new feature in FFX-2 that has never graced any other Final Fantasy before. It is called the Mission Select system which allows players to choose a certain episode of the game that they want to play. In this way, you can actually control the plot of the game. And when a mission is finished a "mission complete" screen will come and you go on to the next mission. Obviously, there must be some restrictions to which missions you can carry out. But its good to know you can alter the story slightly, gives the game more replay value. There is also an Active Link System that connects the episodes and alters the story for you slightly depending on which episode you choose to play.
Plus, there is also and Active Battle System where you have to press certain keys at certain times to fight in battle. It is not yet confirmed if this is the battle system for all battles or not but we'll find out. In the game, in the main menu it is written Jump, dash and so on meaning that Yuna will have the ability to do those rather than just running around all the time. Squaresoft said that they were not trying to make it an action game but gave her some of those abilities so as to make it more interesting.
Another great new change is that Yuna and Rikku will have the ability to change clothes/costumes in between games. Isn't that amazing, kinda like how you changed armour in FFX.
NEW INFORMATION - December 14th
Some details about the game's battle system has been released. As said b4, there will be the Active Time Battle system, which was the usual battle system in FF games until FFX which brought in the sphere system. Three members at most will be able to participate at a time. A new feature is that players will be able to do chain attacks. Yuna will also have the ability to switch from gunman to warrior mode.
