Yoshinori Kitase, producer of the Final Fantasy series, has expressed a desire to develop a direct sequel to Final Fantasy VII in an interview with Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu. Tetsuya Nomura, the character designer for Final Fantasy VII, and many other employees at Square share the same desire and also wish to make this game.
In the interview, Kitase later states that because the game has such a large fanbase, they don't want the game to be of mediocre quality. Because of this, no concrete plans or official decisions about the game have been made.
The interview will be published in an upcoming edition of Famitsu, according to the Japanese gaming website Quiter, however, no more information is expected to be released about the title.

DAMN YOU SQUARE!!!!!! How dare they consider making a sequel to FF 7!!
And this topic is already being discussed in General FF under the title of FF7-2.

I think it would be great if they made a sequel. I was hoping the game wasn't over when it really was. I like sequels anyway. It lets you live another adventure with your favorite characters.

I have read a lot of gossip about this idea, but have not heard in great detail about them actually planning it. This is encouraging to hear and will be intresting to follow.
I've talked with many folks about this and some seem keen on the sequal, and yet others strongly oppose it. I really hope that Square follows this plan and personally I think that if the fans (us) create a petition, then it might encourage them to speed the process up and follow the idea. If anyone is for this plan, then PM me and let me know details about what you think for the petition. I'll see what I can do about letting them see our eagerness and impatience to finalize the game....

I dunno, I'm not too thrilled about a sequel to FF7, they'd have to do somerthing pretty damn remarkable to spark my attention o_O sorry but that's just the way I feel... FF7 was good I'll admit, but not good enough to deserve a sequel... at least to my opinion.

Ladies and Gentlemen of the forum.
First, let me add that. Those of you insulting Squaresoft because of this, rather than making criticism at an adult level should STOP IT! You're insulting other FF fans who support the idea... I'm sorry if I'm sounding like a parent, but what I'm saying is the truth. Not many people like listen to people who swear. Because it doesn't get your point accross. If you want to make your point accross, do it without swearing or insults, especially to the company that has given many of us such cool games.
As for the sequel. I have mixed thoughts. I completely agree that a sequel might not be TOO bad, especially with the fact that FF7 left me more confused than satisfied, It gave more questions than answers. I'm in agreement with the fact that FF7 wasn't really all that good of a game in the end compared to the following FF games. However, FF7 was the first FF game for the PS1. FF7 could well have been a practice game, so that they got the feel for the PS1 and sought out how else they could make better FF games for the PS1. Also, since FF7 wasn't all that good, it gives SQUARE a chance to make it even better than the first. Also, with the recent appearance of cloud on kingdom hearts, I supprt the idea even more so. However, Square will have to really strike my attention in order for me to buy it. The only thing I can say is... If the graphics are excellent, and the graphics match up with an excellent plot. That's all I'll need

I loved FFVII! It is my favorite game to date, and I doubt any other game can ever come close to replacing it. FF X may have great graphics and all, but it is my least favorite FF. Its story is very predictable. Also, I didn't find the graphics in FFVIII and IX to be all that impressive. I don't know how many times I found myself laughing during FFVIII because I could see through the characters, and whenever they run through each other or solid objects. IX was better, but graphics don't make the game. I loved the way FFVII looks. I loved FFVII's ending. I loved everything about FFVII. So what if some people don't get it? Personally, I don't get FFVIII or X. I understand the story, but I don't understand whats so great about it. They never left me with questions, other than me questioning the character's intelligince at times, I never was confused with the game. And that was boring. I don't like it when things are spelled out. I like having to think. Even though I don't get the story or the characters, I don't want to see a sequal. I don't want to see the characters or the story altered for a sequal. Ladies and Gentlemen of the forum.

If your making a comment on my "Damn you square!" people could say a lot worse. I never thought I'd be insulting Squaresoft, and I never say "damn you" to anyone, so for me and people who really know me, "damn you Square" is actually quite shocking and affective, besides, this topic was already being discussed and I didn't feel like repeating myself. Yes Square makes really cool games, and thats why I stopped at "damn you" because I had so much respect for square. But FFVII is what made me hold square in such high regards in the first place, so I think that the alteration of what made me like them in the first place gives me some right in the change of my opinion. Another thing. I don't understand how one person hating the idea of FFVII-2 would insult a person who was all for the idea of FFVII-2. Each are entitled to their own opinions. Someone being for FFVII-2 doesn't really insult me. What if I said I thought that your evaluation of FFVII was insulting to someone such as me who holds it in such high regard? It would seem pretty silly wouldn't it? I don't think that they can make FFVII any better. I think it was the best. But just becuase someone thinks otherwise doesn't give me any reason to feel insulted. Square is the company that created Final Fantasy, and I love Final Fantasy, but that doesn't mean I'll love everything they'll do, and I as a fan and a person have the right to express my dissatisfaction, just as someone who loves the idea has the right to express their approval and support.

A direct sequal of such a good game would be awesome. But if square screws the sequal up (which of course dear dear squaresoft won't do that) I will be deeply upset -_-
