Kuja's up to something... the mist has reclaimed Gaia, and there's a strange, ominous sphere of energy above the Iifa Tree. You've restocked supplies and regrouped with your friends back in the Black Mage Village, but now, you're nearing the end. Something is going to happen. It's the beginning of the end... Memoria.
Gamewise, Memoria is the only new dungeon that exists on the fourth disc. But once you leave the Black Mage Village, of course you get the chance to run around on Gaia once again, this time with the mighty Invincible ship.
What did you think of the first time you reached disc 4 on the game? Did you proceed on with the storyline by going directly to Memoria? Or did you spend time sidetracking (ie. levelling up, finishing sidequests, etc.) And did you think there would be more to do, other than that final dungeon?
---
I'm not quite sure why I thought of this tonight. I'm still playing a fresh game on disc three, nowhere near Memoria, but listening to "Rebirth of the Mist" kinda brought back memories of when I first played the game.
I didn't waste much time sidetracking on other quests. I bought a few items in BMV, went to Treno to fight the last monster, and headed off to Memoria. And since I hadn't bothered finishing Chocobo H&C at the time... *GASP!!* Ziddy was Ultima Weapon-less!!
*apologizes profusely to the Genome* I promise that will NEVER happen again, Ziddy!!!
ZIDANE: Hey, I'm good as long as you give me my Skittles.
KURO: Ultima Skittles?
ZIDANE: *blink* ...you still scare me.
Anyway, so the first time I played, I already knew I was near the end. Memoria actually went rather quickly. I kind of was expecting a little more between BMV and there. You get treated to the Silver Dragon skirmish, and BOOM! You're off in Necronland. I think it took me almost two and a half hours (or was it more?) to pick through the final dungeon and get to Deathy.
SEYMOUR: Deathguise awaits you!
KUJA: Wrong game, moron!!
.... not to mention about five or six game overs... Ah well.

So! What were your impressions of the fourth disc?? :)

I went straight on to Memoria. I went through half of it without saving because I didnt know those crystal ball thingys were save points So imagine how I felt after I got passed a few of the Guardians and then get killed by one and have to start all over from Maliris again x.x...I FINALLY realized they were save points right before Kraken..I think I fought Kraken then got killed and had to start over and then When I finally got to the waterfall before Kraken..I walked up to the crystal ball thingy and pressed "X" and realized they were save points lol.
Then when I got to Deathguise..I got killed right when the fight started cuz he used Meteor -.-...So then I decided to take time out and level up, do sidequest, buy items, and learn abilities ^_^ My Characters where in serious need to learn abilities and to be leveled up.
I didnt really know what to expect in Memoria...It was completely a mystery to me to what it was going to be like...

Hmm.... my impressions of the fourth disc? I kinda enjoyed it. There's a lot of things that you can do on that disc (although there's a lot you can't, too) You still get to visit all those familiar places once more, and now there's nothing for you to worry about except the very last dungeon.
Memoria is a beautiful place, you know? I wonder why I didn't see that before. But I didn't like the way all those facts about Gaia were shoved at you at the very last minute. I think that's the slight problem I find with the way the plot builds up. You don't even hear of another world until the beginning of Disc 3.
Anyway.... I entered Memoria almost straight away. It couldn't be helped, because my holiday was coming to an end and Mom would never let us touch the game anymore if we failed to complete it before then. The moment I entered, Iron Men kicked my butt. Surviving that, I missed Kain's Lance and the Tower, and with the Orihalcon as Ziddy's strongest weapon, I marched onward, only to be annihilated by Marilis.
I got out, trained up, and went in again. After a few tries, I beat Marilis - only to be defeated by Tiamat later on. It was all thanks to Ziddy-kin's Dyne abilities that I defeated the guy.
After that it was rather smooth-sailing.... except for the occasional Stilva. So.... I fled..... and went on..... enjoying the sights of that place.
I love Memoria...... :)

Hmm...I knew I was supposed to be doing something important once I saw the mist had resurfaced. Of course, i thought, "DUR!! Better check the Lifa Tree!!" And went straight to Memoria.
I got my ass kicked royally too. ^^;; I got all of the best weapons at that point for Amarant, Freya, Vivi (WHOOO MACE OF ZEUS!!)...I'm not sure about the others. I know for a fact I didn't get the Tower... I'm pretty sure I didn't find a weapon for Dagger, if there is one. @_@
Still haven't gotten past Hades... I'm such a loser at battles.. >_<

I was happy when i got up to Disc 4 (this was at 3:00AM Saturday Night O_O), I was in the process of beating the game in a week . Anyway! I went straight to Memoria. I wanted to know what happend next in the story. So I got up to the purple ball, i got into the battle with the Nova Dragon and beat him (he was kind of hard) when i got up to Tiamat, I lost (da** Snort attack!!), i finally found a way to beat him and moved on. Now I got up to that guardian of the clock monster and beat him really easily.
(Now its around 12:00AM Sunday Night), I'm at Crystal World and see all these Crystal type monsters and thought "huh? these guys look like the bosses I fought earlier" well they were. Now i got up to Trance Kuja. He and Ziddy were having a conversation and then I saved. I went back to Trance Kuja and he sicked Deathguise on me. Deathguise was hard, I almost lost my party but I beat him. I then battled Trance Kuja who wouldn't stop useing Flare Star (I liked the music :) ). After repeatingly attacking him, he lost and shot one last Ultima at my party. And the final battle begins.....
1:00AM... I'm at the Hills of Despair looking at what Necron says and now I pick my party. Zidane, Vivi, Dagger and Eiko. I go into battle and use every summon and magic I can. When Necron used Shell or Protect I had Eiko use DIspel to take it out. After a hour or so of battleing I beat Necron and enjoyed the credits. Thus beating the game in a week. :)

When I first got on to the 4th disk I was about to go in but I changed my mind and thought I'd make use of this cool new ship ^_^ So I went and got some cool weapons and things. Believe it or not I hadnt even GOT my chocobo yet =-O so I did the chocobo hot and cold and got ultima weapon ect. Which led to me been desperate not to go on to memoria untill I had kiked Ozma's butt! And then I decided to go on to memoria :P

I'm surprised I jotted down everything I did when I played FFIX the sixth time. It's on this piece of paper right next to me. I'll type it out.
Disk I Objectives:
Reach the end by level 10
Obtain five stellazio
Obtain the first 9 chocographs
Disk II Objectives:
Reach the end by level 25
Obtain two stellazio
Disk III Objectives:
Obtain four stellazio
Defeat both monsters in Treno
Get Morrid's coffee to him
Remove the cutscene between Vivi and Quina
Get Dark Blue Choco before the Desert Palace
Get Gold Choco before Terra
Finish the Chocobo Sidequest except for the Ultima Weapon
Finish Friendly Animal Sidequest
Get all of Quina's Blue Magic
Be sure to have at least 2 Zorlin Shapes by the end of the disk
Disk IV Objectives:
Retrieve the Ultima Weapon
Finish the Chocobo Sidequest
Finish Mognet Sidequest
Finish Stellazio Sidequest
Finish Treno Monster Sidequest
Finish Madain Sari Sidequest
Enough said that I am pretty organized when it comes to getting my things done. I make sure everything done as to enhance my gameplay for the "11th hour" as you say it. Because really, it takes only an hour to beat Memoria from start to end.
Note I didn't list Ozma up there because I save my file when everything above is done and then save another file before facing Trance Kuja, so if I ever feel the mood to get my butt whooped or whoop butt, there's a file ready for me.

The first time? Damn, that was a while back... Now, let's see. I was really wrapped in the story so I know I didn't stop around too much. I took a look round the world and stocked up on items before going in.
Memoria is one of, if not the best place if FFIX. It is sooooo colourful, artistic and mesmerising. If it only weren't for those goddamn hard battles that were really hard (1st go).
Nowadays I just do EVERYTHING, I guess (*sigh* I say this everyday. Look at the name...) Going into memoria with level 100 characters, every ability and best equippage is the funnest thing. Especially when you wipe out the end boss in 6 or 7 hits. I think my record is 33 seconds or something. That's from the actual time when the ATB gauge appears and the lines start moving.
Ozma is still a challenge when you're not equipped right. *sigh*
