View Full Version : Forum Upgrade

Hi everyone :),
Welcome to vBulletin 3.5! To put it quite simply, this upgrade to the forums brings all sorts of new features, and speeds up the forums where it can. As you look around the forums I'm sure you'll notice many of them, but just because I can, I'll point out some of the neater features:
Quick Reply
...has become instant reply. Use it and you'll see what I mean ;).
Inline editing
When you click the "Edit" button, instead of being taken to another page, your text will appear in a textbox that will allow you to edit it "inline". If you prefer the old fashioned way, click "Go Advanced".
Title Editing
Much like inline editing, for a short period of time after your thread is made you can change the title of your thread. Simply click on the area around the title in the thread list and a box will appear.
In addition to this, I myself have made a few adjustments, improvements and deletions here and there:
The Store
Is now all fancy and new, and hopefully easier to navigate. I've also lowered the price on a number of things, by request.
Notes:
Due to a huge mistake on my part, everyone's gil dropped down to 0. I have, therefore, given everyone 7,500 gil to do whatever you wish with. I apologize for any inconvience my mistake may have caused.
Glows were also lost in a similar manner. They're really cheap now though.
You no longer donate gil to people through the store. Instead, click on "Gil" underneath their names and a box will appear that'll let you donate.
User Comments
The User Comments have gained their own overhaul to fit in with vB 3.5. They work the same way as before, but if you click on the [ + ] or [ - ] next to the input box, you'll see that it will expand to accomodate longer, muli-line comments.
Triple Triad and Cards
All of the cards that have been made were wiped during the upgrade. I may reinstate the "create card" feature sooner rather than later, but I may not. I plan to come up with a better backend for the triple triad system, allowing people to play with actual rules, get better cards easier, and have stats based on more than just usergroup.
If you haven't already guessed, Triple Triad isn't working for the time being.
Arcade
The arcade isn't working either. I didn't write this hack, so I don't know if it will be ported over to 3.5 on the main vBulletin hack site. If not, I'll port it over myself.
There's some other cool things here and there, so look around and enjoy :)
Thanks,
- Silver
P.S. If you have trouble posting, reload your cache by pressing ctrl + F5
A quick note to people - If you have lost gil, Tough.
We will NOT be replacing lost gil.

ooh la la......i'm rich! and prices in the store have dropped down too! rah rah! oh wait.....
Private Forum
Price :: 10000
You need :: 2490
BOO! XD
seriously tho, props for all the hard work silver, and everyone else who helps in the site and forum maintenance and whatnot. :P
ooh, we need a spell checker cuz i just had to look to make sure i spelled "maintenance" right :D
:EDIT: ooh again, this inline edit thing is cool, but i actually wanted to mention/suggest/whatever is that since the price of changing the username has dropped more people are probably going to do it so it might be helpful if members mention their previous usernames in their sig or something, or maybe a thread. i dunno, but if alot of people do it, it could be confusing. just a thought........*thinks about changing her username* :retard:

As a matter of fact 3.5 comes with one :D...but only if you're using Internet Explorer. There's a spell-check button next to the button in the upper-right hand corner (of quick reply / regular reply). It opens up a thingy called "ieSpell".

Well if it means I have more money all is good ^^
Well despite the trouble you had getting the upgrade to work you still got it done Mike, and within a day... I've seen other forums that upgrade or go through a stage where they fix their bugs and they take forever to get their forums back up!

Posting </3 in a comment box screws it up.

Aug 11, 2005, 04:40 AM
What the hell? O.o
Posting <3 with a / in the middle does some screwy things on the forum.
(Which I tried to explain above, but I thought it was only in comment boxes)

Ok, that last post was just messed up.
When you edit the quote it gives you HTML witch I posted just 2 seconds ago, and in wich it made everything crazy till I deleted the last post. But when you edit, you can't see the edit button or a delete button. You have to open it again and delete it.

You shoulda left that post on Miko, to show the extent of the screwyness.

That's with the HTML pasted in there. Could you post the HTML it brings up, but disable HTML in the post?
EDIT: I tried posting it in code tags, but that didn't work.

Well done, Silver. The upgrade is exceptional.
The only thing I'm complaining about is my User Title. Every time I try to change it, it stays like I changed it for a while, then it changes back to "Registered User". This has happened twice, and each time I lost 500 gil. Can you help if you get a spare moment?

Asking a question.
Will all the chances of changing Avatar be erased because of the upgrade ? I remember buying them but now i have none left. -_-
Mike
Aug 12, 2005, 06:12 AM
Yes, which is why I gave you 7500 gil. With the amount now you can get 7 avatar changes if you want.

Hm... every time I log out, it says that an error occured, so I have to click another link to log out.
Not that it's a problem, it takes like a split second to do.
But I'm just pointing it out.

The uploader thingy doesn't work. Or was its deactivation on purpose? >.>
Mikayla
Aug 16, 2005, 10:55 PM
Yeah, it wont let me upload form Uff.
That and I can't make a comment in my box >_>
The uploader is actually uploading files, but having issues displaying them to people in the CP. This is being worked on. Comments should be working now, but we'll look into that too. Sorry if a lot of things aren't working, these updates are tricky business.

Aug 17, 2005, 01:05 AM
It is working fine now. Unless you did something, it might have just been my browser.
Sorry about that >.>
_J_
Aug 17, 2005, 02:42 AM
Uh, the uploader doesn't work for me. I get redirected to a white screen with big bold letters saying:
print_standard_error(...)
is now redundant. Instead, use
standard_error(fetch_error(...))
EDIT: It was over the file size limit, but maybe you wanna get like a message or something?

Aug 17, 2005, 02:45 AM
I tried uploading an avatar to the server, which was below the filesize.
Then I tried using it for my custom avatar, and it says we cannot use animated avatars?
Is that a bug or something the admins set on the board?

The comments seem to work for me, it's the uploads that are problematic.
In either case, i'm sure it's being worked on.

When I try and change my profile pic I get "You may not upload animated images."
Is it actually an animated image or just a .gif file?
In the meantime, if you want an avatar change or an upload, PM me and I'll do it for you, free of charge.

Keep that damn pen away from me.
It is an animated gif, but it's well with in the filesize/resolution limit and it gives me the uploading message when I try and link to it too =/
Send me a link to it, I'll do it for you, until this is over.

Mike
Aug 30, 2005, 07:22 PM
Ok, I've got no clue what's wrong but I'll continue to look into it. Anyone who's had their title reset, PM me with the title you'd like and I'll put it back to what it was.
Edit: This has been fixed.

Sep 2, 2005, 02:08 AM
I'm not sure if it was ment to be and that I missed something, or what, but every once in a while I go to Quick links and then the page refreshes and then at the top it has like User CP, Store, FAQ, Members list, Calendar, New Posts, Mark forums read, open buddy list, and then Log out. It gets kind of annoying because I go back to click quick links and end up opening a buddy list...
Mike
Sep 2, 2005, 02:19 AM
That's a default vBulletin feature that triggers when you have javascript disabled. I'm assuming that you don't, so I'm gonna go out on a limb and think you're clicking "Quick Links" before the page finishes loading, which seemingly causes issues.
Mikayla
Sep 2, 2005, 02:51 PM
Ah, possibly. Ok, I'll just have to wait for the page to load then next time I hit quick links.
