Seeing how this had nothing to do with TV or movies, I stuck this here.

Okay, everyone knows of the God forsaken movie known as "The Fast and the Furious" but what most of you may not know what the movie has spawned. I have attached an image I took of an Eclipse at an auto show I went to and added something. This has to be the ugliest thing I ever saw....Note to the automotive wise: That is not a front mount intercooler for a turbo, it is a front mount air intake filter......

Yeeeeesh... o_O

Actually, Fast and the Furious didn't exactly spawn that craze. It's always been around, but I think that movie made it worse. ;)I see that little car mod subculture I see around here in Hawaii and in Southern California which is pretty much kids taking their economy cars and making them look fast. Note that it has nothing to do with actually making the car any better or faster, it just makes them LOOK fast.

We call 'em "Fartboxes."

BWAAAAAAAAA bdabdabdabda BWAAAAAAAAAAAA bdabdabda bdaaaaaaaa....

Damn, if my car could go faster just by sticking TYPE R decals and a wing and a coffee can muffler on the car, I'd be FLYING! WHEEE!! :P

... I feel so bad for that poor Eclipse! *LOL* o_O

Oh my, an air intake pretending to be a turbo intercooler. Typical rice boy mentality(look fast, but in reality, slow) with the ugliest gawd-awful body kit butchered unto what started off as a simple Japanese car. Bah.

Unfortunately, they exist here in spades too. These kids go around in their dropped Civics with Maxwell House coffee can mufflers, $2,000 rims and shopping cart handle spoilers while thinking they're Aryton Senna driving an F1 car. Argh. :P

Seeing as I both love Transformers and Fast and the Furious, when this picture loaded up, I was unable to control some form of laughter :D

On a more serious note, the car in itself is no special thing. It's more of a souped-up garbage disposal unit. People put things on their car making them look fast and drive fast, when all they do is probably slow the car down, and make it look like a fashion reject in the year 2050. For shame....

LMAO... Shnedsie!! You read my mind!! ;) It's funny how you can see how these kids lower their cars and it just ends up screwing up their suspension. I've seen many a pigeon-toes lookin' car parked at the Pearlridge shopping center. Hehehe. I drive by these "hopped-up" Hondas and Acuras (which seem to be the most common choice of car) with my bone-stock Corolla, and I swear, my car not only looks and sounds better, I spent far less on it, and I bet I could outrun them, too. Hehehehe. ;)

Now now guys, how bout we back off on the whole making fun of people that modify their car, as I too take part in that. Although I do not have a giant fin (I have none) although I do have a "fart can" but its silenced and is acctually a cat back system and not a tip. I have rims, they didnt cost me 2 grand, more like 500 bucks for 17s and, although I drive a Honda Accord, I replaced the engine with a Honda Racing engine (destroked H22 for engine literate people) and installed a complete stage 2 GReddy Turbo system, so im not slow. And I have no body kit, just a stock exterior. Anyway, when I read that thing about the shopping cart handle for a wing I nearly peed myself laughing! Anyway, does anyone know where I can get some more Transformer pics so I can make some more pics like the above one?^_^ :D :)

Well, there's a difference between actually MAKING your car better by modifying it, and just modifying it by slapping on a spoiler and a few decals to make it LOOK fast. That's what I (and many of my friends who scoff at the subculture) are talking about. If your car's performance is actually improved (which it sounds like yours is), hey, more power to ya.

But the "fartboxes" that run around here in Hawaii... a lot of them aren't imporvements. They're shoddily done modifications that end up ruining the car's performance. ;)

Good to hear there's a fellow speed enthusiast on the board. Its cool you got real performance mods! Being on a motorcycle(Suzuki Hayabusa), it gets old seeing/hearing these kids go around thinking they're the baddest thing on the block. I love tastefully modded cars/bikes; I just don't like the mentality that seems to go with the trend sometimes. What few that were stupid enough to think they were faster than me were promptly put in their place. ;)

And if you're looking for Transformers style stuff, try this Mpeg movie. http://members.cox.net/michaelsstorage/VWMPG.mpg

Thoes things are beasts!!! I saw a Twin Turbo Hayabusa go against an SVT Supercharged Cobra and there was no comparison, and the SVT took another cycle the race before by like 2 cars. But yea, thoes fart boxes do piss me off, especially Because I need a big back pipe (3 inches in diameter) so it can get kinda loud, but I need it so my car won't blow up lol. But anyway, if anyone gets the chance to beat up on a ricer with a tip and an APC intake, do it, it is a BLAST :P :s

Heh, I purposely don't look for races against ricers, but if someone revs me out at a light and the road is clear, I gladly show them my tail lights. ;)

Supercharged/turboed muscle cars like Cobras, Vipers and the new Z06 vettes give Hayabusas a good run for their money. There's a famous video floating online where a modded Supra(Walser, I believe) races a stock and turbo 'Busa in a roll on. Stock gets beat while the turbo 'Busa argueably wins. Just because I ride a Hayabusa, doesn't mean I always think I'll win. I respect anyone who rides/drives anything fast and they'll always get a thumbs up from me.

Again, good job with the turbo, drop them nikes. :)

Looks like I found your ricer. He's being made fun of on a Hayabusa board. An awesome contendor for those "Fast And The Furious."
