Just click on them and they insert into your message. :D

vB forums are the most user friendly, I think. All you do is click on the smilies you want to use in your post. You'll pick it all up quite easily. I'm on a Windows 98 system, whilst my computer is waiting to be fixed, and I can do most things, all except the chat, and some video links don't work for me. :(
