View Full Version : Zombie Apocalypse
Zombies suddenly begin appearing and killing people and turning them into zombies. The whole planet's effected. What do you do?
Do you join forces with others or go it alone?
Do you kill other survivors or let them go free?
Once you're safe, do you stay that way or try to go out and rescue others?
Thread inspired by dead rising. Discuss.
'kay first ;_; I'd stay in one spot and cry forever. When I'm done and the coast is clear, I'd grab a suspicious-looking bush and hide underneath it, try to make my way through the horde of zombies and look for someone I know, or just any old survivor reallyy. Then I'd make room for them... and yeah. Head for the nearest church. How freaking scary would thaat be.
Oh, and getting chased by zombies too ;p
I wouldn't really have the guts to go back out there once I'm safe :\ I'll just tend to the others or something, if they're hurt and I'm not.

Band with with others and take them down. Though I'd still be praying for a mutual alliance, a la Land of the Dead. Though to be honest, if I could find a spot on my own, where I'd be safe, and could survive, then I'd be content there. But, it's probably best to remain with others so you've got a stronger force if you have to challenge a wave or two of them.
You watch the films, but you never think just what you'd do in that position.

As much as I'd love to say I'd do a Captain Jack Sparrow and run away from them, arms flailing, I'll end up either going it alone and kicking ass or gathering with other people. If I had a good vantage point and I had no indication that anyone else had survived, I'd go it alone. I'd let the survivors live of course - they can kick ass with me :D

Well, I'd be happy to join up with some other people who could kick some ass. I know my limitations, I'm not stupid. But like Shned, if I could find somewhere reasonably safe and secure, I'd be happy to sit there and let everything else carry on without me.

You know I have actualy been giving the zombie apocalypse alot of thought latley. I would first grab the shotgun in my closet. I would drive up to maine and steal a boat. I mean think about it, Maine has alot of ports and it would be simple to get re-supplied. I could steal alot of guns and ammo from my local wal-mart and guns shops. I would help anyone I found but I would inspect them for bites. If they even got scratched I would haveto shoot them, its better off that way. I would think the last thing they would want is to go around eating their friends. I would get on my boat with my surviviors and we would pretty much party. I mean we all know from movies that living on land is just asking to be killed, so living on a boat seems to be an ideal spot. I would make runs into areas and do quick search for suvivors every once in a while and if I ever got bored I could go zombie hunting. I can see zombies going under water but swimming into my boat? Yah right. If I ever feel like the zombie apocalpyse is coming I will give yall my cell number so I could come pick you up.
Its not liek the movies were they just go into a building without even looking inside first, if one zombie knows where you are its likley that a few hundred are to follow. So for all of you saying you would stay inside, I do wish you the best of luck if there ever was a zombie apocalypse.

Woah, when I saw this Thread, I almost thought it was real. I was watching the original "Dawn of the Dead" for the best part of this afternoon, and the same thing was running through my head.
To be honest, in any apocalypse, there's worse things to worry about than zombies, such as the criminally insane and whatnot escaping from their prisons, due to power failure. Not to mention, all the looting, plundering, rape... yeah, I guess it would be fair to wonder what would happen, noting the zombies may outnumber the humans, and slaughter them for their own disturbing feed.
Also, I'd probably wonder if any large cities, for instance, New York, London, and so forth, would be nuclear holocausted, rather than zombie holocausted. If an outbreak like this happened in real life, I guess I've had experience from playing video-games like Resident Evil, and so forth. It's usually the same old story, mostly. But how can we define these types of media as the absolute truth? - They're all fiction.
Myself? ... I'd probably try and escape, somewhere. I'd hole up safe, hopefully running into survivors and banding together with them. I'd obviously try and discover some sort of weaponry, although I've no experience in using firearms, other than at the Funfair. Ha-ha. Maybe I could make do swinging a katana around, and lopping the undead masses like some crazy blade wielding maniac. To be honest, the prospect of survival would be quite frightening. I don't know how to drive, or fly a plane... or even command a boat, or something. I'd most likely avoid large areas, such as cities... maybe the countryside is a little less daunting, due to the lower population?
My main concern, of course, food and supplies. And also, how exactly does one become infected? - We're shown in movies it is often through a bite, or through infected blood entering the mouth, or being passed into the bloodstream... much like a typical virus, of course.
Who knows, perhaps these zombies could become evolved, and consider themselves a new race? ... Much like the movie, "The Omega Man" with Charlton Heston as the last human survivor on Earth, in which the mutants created by fallout consider themselves a divine race, beyond man/womankind. Although the mutants could pass on their curse through bizarre methods, they were also logical thinkers. It depends what one could define as zombie, or inhuman.
... Damn... now I'm getting nostalgic for old zombie movies, and stuff. I guess the main feeling amongst everyone here is to be realistic, stay alive, stay safe, and band together and work as a team. Sort of makes you think about the human race, and survival, doesn't it? - When we're threatened, we'll band together, however... if we're in a safe situation, we take everyone else for granted.
Interesting that you'd ask this question. I do believe I'd follow this guide (http://www.sgb162.com/Zombie.Survival.Guide.pdf)

All of you want to be like me.
That being said, me and a close group of friends have been preparing with this scenario in mind for years. Firearms are to be used rarely, and only while moving and at close range in order to 1. not lure zombies to where you are stationary via a gunshot and 2. not to waste ammunition. Kills would normally be performed with a blunt weapon (hammer) or machete.
Our escape route takes us south east through Texas on back-roads, and allowing for detours around all towns and cities. Traveling will occur by bike, seeing as how motor vehicles lack mobility to avoid cities and can get stuck traveling due to wreckage on the road. Motorcycles are easier to travel with, but the risk of bumping into a rock and flying off the bike while driving around a city is a bit too big of one to take. The trip will take an estimated week, including time for additional detours, possible supply runs, and any other needs. Once we reach the Texas coast, there is a boat in a dry dock liscensed to us. The danger in this is that we have to enter into a coastal area for this, and coastal generally means populated. However, we've chosen the dry dock in Matagorda, a very small town of only a few hundred people on the coast. Additionally, if our boat is damaged, or missing from the dry dock, Matagorda is a great place to hold up and come up with a backup plan, due to the fact that nearly every house in the area is built off of the ground on stilts to avoid flood damage, this makes them virtual fortresses against a zombie attack. Assuming we can get our boat into the water, we have a map of the Gulf of Mexico, and plan to transport ourselves to the shelloffshore oil rig 223491, around four hundred miles off the coast (none are much closer due to laws regarding the OCS). Once we reach the oil rig, we should be okay for the next few years. The first people to be sent home in a catastrophic event would be people working in places like oil rigs, seeing as how they would demand to be sent home. Additionally, oil rigs hold enough non-perishable food for a few months each, keep in mind this figure is intended for a crew of a couple hundred, not a half dozen. Even better, the rig is able to use the energy from the oil that it pumps to power it's operations (air conditioning, electronics, salt water purifier, ect) and if we run out of food, we can always fish.
After a decade or so, nearly all corpses infected with Solanum will have literally rotted away. It usually only takes five years or so, but we like to be safe. The reason why we preserve ammo is now understood, at this point nearly all stocks of weapons will have been looted, and moving back on to the mainland we'll be competing with other survivors, not the easily slain zombies.

Way to pirate an entire book, you douche. You can't pony up the ten bux to buy a copy? Especially given it's a fantastic book.
And to pre-empt, yes I download stuff when it's early/non-US market, but I buy it when it's released.
But given the thread prompt, I'd assess the scale of the outbreak and go from there. If it's a class 2-3, I'm hunkering down at the local racetrack because for one...I work there and know the ins and outs, and have keys. Second, you should see the ammount of food you can stock all over the place there. It's huge and walled/fenced.

I'd let 'em take me down. Being a zombie sounds like fun.
