View Full Version : Did you figure this out about Auron?

Figured my first post would be about Final Fantasy IX, but it's not.

I'm playing through Final Fantasy X now (it's been a while for this one), and having passed Guadosalam and the Farplane recently, a part that happened made me think.

Now this isn't a major point in the story of the game, but I wouldn't it ruined for me had I not known.

The player doesn't know that Auron is dead. The first hint of this is when Seymour asks Auron "Why are you still here sir?" and "We Guado are quite keen of the scent of the farplane". Afterwards, you head to the Farplane and Auron won't go in (neither will Rikku). He says "I don't belong there". When you come out, Lord Jyskal tries to follow (to give you that sphere warning about Seymour) and Auron appears to go into a bit of pain with pyreflies about him.

Then, of course, at the end, Yuna goes to send, I can't remember what (aeons?), and Auron is around her so he starts getting sent, she sees this and stops, and he say "Don't stop".

There's also the backstory about Rin finding him and recovering him, and the flashback with Yunalesca, but those aren't really hints to it.

On my first playthough, I didn't figure this out until the end when it shown. Seeing these hints though on this playthrough, they seem more obvious, or perhaps I only say that becuase I already know this time. I still wonder why (or anyone I knew) never figured it out on the first playthrough.

Did anyone else figure it out, right then and there the first time, or was it not until the end that you found out?

I had my suspicions, but I can't say I was 100% sure, because I never assume things. Mind you, before the end, Auron tells the main character anyway, so anybody should have figured it out before beating the game. I actually had my suspicions on that when people kept talking about him being missing for ten years...

*SPOILER*
It didn't surprise me in the least, about 30-80% of my favorite characters in games, movies, anime, books, etc. etc. etc. end up dying anyway. FFX took it to the next level; my favorite character was dead the whole damn game.

Couldn't said it better, DP. All of your favorite charas always die. Except Tellah.

It didn't exactly come as a shock, since you kind of already knew from the various clues. Of course, it was slightly annoying that he had to pass away, but still.

FFX-2 Would have been better if Auron would have been in it... :(

A tiny voice cameo in the end it's not enough to satisfy our needs about the Knight who looks like a Samurai

I knew something was up with him... it also might explain why he could travel to the "Dream Zanarkand"...

I actually had not a clue until the truth came out later in the game-I think it was very well concealed.

Perhaps its for the best that his memory was not so defiled by being in FFX-2, but remained intact as the Auron we all loved from FFX.

Are you nuts? It's Auron, the more Badass game character evah. And the fact that it's very similar to my father in many ways doesnt help very much...

Yeah, I had to have it spelled out to... don't like to pre-emt games, takes the fun out of it. Very obvious the second time around, makes for good replay value.

When you leave from fighting Yunalesca Auron actually says he's an unsent.
