It's been done before yeah yeah but the last time I saw a thread like this was probably at least 5 years ago, and god knows we've seen a craapload of games since then :) So on with it! What are your favorite places? The ones you wouldn't mind getting lost in? The ones you always look forward to when you're playing the game?

My old and all-time favorites..

1. Final Fantasy X- Macalania Forest

It's blue, it sparkles, and oh--the music--it's just overall enchanting. Given that description I actually quite love (FFIX) Terra, too.

2. Final Fantasy IX - Memoria

It's effed up but in a beautiful way, kind of like Alice in Wonderland, and I love any place that's mystical like that. :)

3. Final Fantasy VII - City of the Ancients
4. Spyro the Dragon 2: Ripto's Rage - Autumn Plains (Home Level)

5. Chrono Cross - Dead Sea

I have no idea why I love this place so much seeing as it's, well, dead, and the place is overall depressing.. but there's something I love about it coupled with the haunting music (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VRuNjO1RO2I).

6. Golden Sun: The Lost Age - Lumeria
7. Chrono Trigger - Zeal
8. Spyro the Dragon - Dream Weavers World
9. Final Fantasy (X?)-2 - The Farplane
10. Final Fantasy IV - The Moon

I'm not at all biased to that era. :P <3 you know I actually had to think long and hard about the newer ones and nothing; when I think of my favorite VG places I always think the classics (which by my definition I guess is 90's-early 00's. woww time flies). Right now all I can think of is the entire world of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and Mass Effect - Ilos. It's not very pretty as we see it in the game but you can just tell by the mini-view and the stories how beautiful it used to be. Besides there's still something about it.

So shoot! :D

First off, always the best...

Final Fantasy IX - Terra
You walk into this place and the music starts and it's just sooo awesome. Favourite part of the game for me.

World Of Warcraft - Grizzly Hills, Northrend
They use a hardinger for all the music. Melts me every time.

Final Fantasy VIII - Lunatic Pandora
Just like the futuristic/crystal look of the place

Final Fantasy X/X-2 - The Calm Lands
Huge open plains that in X-2 got some awesome music. Reminds me spookily of the Olympics the music does.

Super Mario Galaxy - New Egg Galaxy
Intro into the gameplay could not have been better. Sweeping star vistas and music to match.

Kingdom Hearts 2 - The World That Never Was
If I was to design a world that technically didn't exist, it would be like this. Standing on Luxord's terrace or Saix's room and looking out on Kingdom Hearts I like.

That's all I can think of off the top of my head. No doubt there's more than that though.

FFX Calm Lands/Arena areas - free roaming goodness with the ability to fight watever you wont on demand? what could be better?

Jak 3 - Desert areas with all vehicles unlocked, enemy after enemy for slaughtering

FFXII - Zertinan Caverns, just an awsome place really^^

FFXII - Nam-Yensa/Ogir-Yensa The Sand-Sea.
That first intro scene where the sand actually looks like a vast, endless sea just looks amazing. I think it's the surreal quality that makes it so striking and just awesome. Spending hours chaining hundreds of those little sandpeople is damn cool to boot.

FFIX - Terra
It's obvious, one of IX's best places by far.

FFX - Sin
The last stretch of FFX was odd, but I think it worked. Though the last boss was a bit disapointing the setting was damn cool.

Tombi! - The Dwarf Forest/Forest of 100 Flowers
I think that's what it's called? Remember spending god knows how long playing the demo to that game as a kid.. I probably love that place just because of the good memories associated with it. Still, what a god damn awesome game.

*ahem*

Star Ocean: The Last Hope - Planet Roak -
This planet is simply beautiful, you could gaze at your screen for hours on end and feel like you belong inside it. Simply amazing environment.

Star Ocean: The Last Hope - EN II -
Again, a beautiful planet - this is a man-made planet, yet the whole place is a wonderful scene of innocence and beauty.

Star Ocean: The Last Hope - Planet Aeos - :D:D
A jungle-like planet with interesting vegetation and an amazing looking seascape.

Final Fantasy: Crisis Core - 'The Final Dungeon' -
I forget the real name, but if anyone's been in there, it's a great, secluded place that I would simply love to relax in. The music is a great addition to the area that really lets you feel comfortable.

Fable 2 - Bowerstone Market/Oakfield -
Bowerstone Market;
This is what a city should be - simply excellent and a great place to live.
Oakfield;
Great for a farmer, if you so wish to be one =P
Otherwise, after you save the place from the Temple of Shadows, the scenery is just amazingly lush.

That's all I can think of right now, I might add more sometime ;D

In alphabetical order:

Final Fantasy VII - Nibelheim
The place is still an enigma to me. I hate going there on Crisis Core, because once you enter, the world is never the same when you leave. Still, the Shinra Mansion is just a constant reminder, past and present, of the world's misgivings behind closed doors. Such a backstory, in all its mystery.

Final Fantasy IX - Memoria
So beautifully and expertly designed, and even though I overlook the music, thinking about it now, the lilting, relaxing tune just adds to the wonder. Love nothing more than just wandering through, from entrance to Gateway to Space.

God of War II - Island of Creation
It's the foliage that makes it. A timeless location, with its crumbling walls and ancient pitfalls. Great ocean views, too.

Halo - Death Island
Always enjoy playing this stage online. Such a natural environment, littered with its alien architecture, and stealthing along the beach is great. Plus, just love the faint body of Halo itself in the sky.

Kingdom Hearts - Hollow Bastion
Best world in the game, by far. Such a fantastic design - the coagulation of natural goodness, and twisted evil. Finest battle music in this place, too. Scherzo Di Notte sells it. If you were to compose a melody for Hollow Bastion, you would always end up with this.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 - Ice Cap
Still the greatest zone ever created.

World of Warcraft - Nagrand
Luscious green land, and fragments of the place suspended in the air. Really is an incredible image. First time I got my flying mount, I explored the edge of Nagrand, and just died. Twilight Ridge is so hauntingly spectacular. Panoramic views as far as the eye can see.

World of Warcraft – Howling Fjord
Northrend's finest spot. Greatly reminds me of the Northern homeland - the natural stretches of Scandinavia; Norway's finest fjords, all tied in with Norse rip-offs and superbly-designed Giants. What could be better?

Final Fantasy IX - Memoria/Terra

Just like everyone else says, though aside from the looks & awesome music, I think I loved it the most because it was when you really got to figure out Zidane more. (Add extra crappy detail here.)

Final Fantasy VII - Gold Saucer

8D ♪ Dun-dun DUUN Duna-lun-dun-DUUN ♫

Chrono Trigger - Zeal

Who doesn't?

Final Fantasy X - Djose Temple

At least I think it was that temple :) I loved doing the one before you get Ixion.

Final Fantasy X - Thunder Plains

D: When I played in my basement this was super fun. We'd have the thunder echo & almost shock us at first

Valkyrie Profile: Silmeria - Dipan Castle

It was this place or Crell Monferaigne (It's been a while) - but I remember how stunningly pretty it was when I walked about. It's one of those places where you can almost feel the wind blowing, you know?

Okami - Sei-an City

Probably because of the many events, but all of the people weren't just sitting around & staring at a wall, they were actually off playing games or something. Though most certainly Okami's style of art in-game was really unique, which really added to a lot of places.

I'm sure there's more. Too tired to remember ;_;
