Welcome to Round Eleven of Survivor: Battle of the Decade!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v159/Daviace/logo_battle_600w_v4_465x3001.png

Begins: 11pm, 2nd March 2010
Ends: 11pm, 4th March 2010

It may have taken ten rounds…

Eviction Votes

Golden Sun: The Lost Age – 6
Dragon Age: Origins – 2
Final Fantasy XII – 1
Final Fantasy IX - 1
Chrono Trigger DS – 1
Lost Odyssey - 1

Immunity Votes

Final Fantasy XII – 5
Golden Sun: The Lost Age – 4
Final Fantasy IX -1
Chrono Trigger DS - 1

…but we finally have our first Eviction votes for the two Final Fantasy entrants in the contest. OK, so it was only one apiece and it was the Immunity votes for XII that actually had a bearing on the game, but I thought it worth noting.

The lack of Eviction votes for FFXII was unexpected because DreamLines had a good point when he revealed how he was "surprised that no-one yet has tried to pull off a sneaky back-door Final Fantasy Bandwagon, so here's trying" before casting the only and vote you see above - once upon a time this game was all about sneaky back-door bandwagons like that. This time, though, people such as Mig are shocked that anyone "could even conceive of such a twisted idea as a sneaky backdoor anti-FF Bandwagon!"

In fact, sneakiness and anti-FF votes in general was frowned on during the last Round. Beastly knew how little chance he had when he voted against IX, as the opening quote suggests, but while most people found the idea so laughable they just ignored it, Aether wanted him to know that "I see your sneaky ploy Beast man" and countered it with his Immunity vote.

As if to prove how thing should be done in this enlightened age, the successful bandwagon operated not under the cover of darkness but out in the open. Just how BZero swayed everyone to his side, after receiving no support last time out and still not saying a word, does however remain a mystery. Before we investigate though, let us first bid adieu, auf wiedersehen, gesundheit, and farewell to…

Odin Sphere
Tales of Symphonia
Fallout 3
Persona 4
World of Warcraft
Tales of Vesperia
Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth
Star Ocean: Til the End of Time
Eternal Sonata
Golden Sun: The Lost Age

That was the result of Round Ten, so let’s take a gander at

The Predictions

Which game will be evicted in Round 10?

One person predicted that one correctly and their name is Mig. Continue to be amazed, my friend, as you take the lead…

Aether - 3
BZero – 2
Dedrus - 1
Lord DB - 2
Mig - 5
Not Miko - 3
Roger - 4
Sioux – 2

It must be about time for us to dash back to the last Question – “We're halfway through, so what has been the biggest surprise so far?”

For Ridley it was “The fact that Eternal Sonata lost. Those that voted against it, you're off my Christmas card list”, a sentiment perhaps shared by Sam whose “biggest surprise so far was discovering how many people underestimate the awesomeness of Eternal Sonata, it is my love child.”

For Dedrus it was the opposite, as he was surprise “that Eternal Sonata lasted so long" though he was also shocked "that World of Warcraft took a severe beating =P”, which Roger definitely agreed with because for him it was “That World of Warcraft got dicked on so early on.”

Meanwhile, for Magus the “biggest surprise was the amount of JRPGs that made the final cut. 7 Have been voted out and 7 still remain!”, which Lord DB agreed with in essence because he was taken aback by “the lack of WRPGs on the current list... there are only two”, in addition to being surprised "that Tales of Symphonia left the game so early. I thought it would last a bit longer seeing as there are several people here who liked it."

As for Sioux, well, as always, his response really deserves to be seen in its entirety, as he gave an in-depth assessment of the game so far, so check it out here (http://www.uffsite.net/forums/showpost.php?p=279678&postcount=12).

Unless I am very much mistaken, it is usually around this time that we check out the new

Question of the Round

What is the plot of your original RPG?

Back to your creations – some of you have told us the plot already, so you an either copy and paste what you said before or take this chance to change it.

Yet again, no Miscellaneous Business, so here is your list;

Chrono Trigger DS
Dragon Age: Origins
Final Fantasy IX
Final Fantasy XII
Golden Sun
Kingdom Hearts 2
Knights of the Old Republic
Lost Odyssey
Mass Effect

And as was written in the ancient scrolls of years gone by, "trust me - a person who is nice to you but rude to the waiter is not a nice person!"

Eviction: Dragon Age: Origins

The standard BioWare template that has plagued every one of their RPGs as of late is getting pretty old. Every one of their games features the same mechanics, but different settings. Yawn. Once this is done, KOTOR and Mass Effect are next on my list. They're nothing that special to me. Mass Effect 1 was boring, and I am not a big Star Wars guy.

QotR: Man cheats on girl, girl steals his mp3 player, man must go one quest to retrieve mp3 player to avoid the embarrassment of everyone finding out how lame his musical tastes are.

I'm the Tuffy to you're Jerry, Beastly

Evict: Final Fantasy IX

QotR:
Some sort of action RPG about Cowboys and Indians fighting over a planet natively inhabited by dragons....where each side has futuristic phaser cannons yet the most skiled fighters decide to use light swords

The only addition i'll make is that Samuel L. Jackson will feature in the cast.

Sioux

I like the cut of this bandwagon's jib. And the ancient reference to Tom and Jerry.

Eviction: Final Fantasy IX Just typing that felt like blasphemy but, hey, who here is embodying Sloth like no tomorrow? :D

Immunity to come along in a rather sloth like manner.

QotR: The game being called Vision Quest will have various members of Native American tribes all across North and South America meeting in post apocalyptic Mexico City. Being the last survivors of their tribes and humanity(that they know of) they're beckoned after meeting in the cavernous sewers of the city to travel to various locations of their world through a variety of means. In each place they meet actual spiritual embodiments of the major deities from each tribe. These embodiments will communicate, test, battle, empower and ultimately lead this motley crew of survivors to their eventual destiny.

Hrm. Vague but just enough details to wet the tongue. Now to go take a nap.

XII is absolute garbage compared to IX. Go after that one.

Why is no-one helping evict a remake? You already took out the other one and it was a far better game. >_<

Immunity: Final Fantasy IX

No Mr Bandwagon, just no

Qotr: See the epic transcript of the Fall of Fallout 3. There is the plot.

<3 Sioux.

Eviction: Final Fantasy IX

It's about time we retired the old and lean way to the new.

QotR: I had a game? I don't remember, so let's start again.
It would be about a young boy, where close-by to his house, a meteor/comet strikes the nearby mountain. He and his friends go to investigate and are all like 'Woaahhhh, a comet.' Whilst spectating the comet, a magical bee comes out and is all like 'OMFG, SAVE THE EARTH. DANGER, DAAANGEEERRHH.' And then the bee is killed by the protagonist's friend's mother - and so, our young hero sets out on a journey to record the soundscapes of eight various locations on a STONE, spanning the desert, the underworld and various other notable locations! All in an attempt to save the world. But OMFG, plot twist! The enemy trying to wtfpwn the world is actually our young hero's BEST FRIEND. And some giant destroyer-of-world's monster like dude robot thing. But mainly your best friend.

Apparently I've been playing too much Earthbound. Oh man, that game rocked.

Close...but:

You people have got the WRONG FLIPPING GAME

IMMUNE: Final Fantasy IX

Evict: Final Fantasy XII

In response to Mig, and his horror at my tactics: you see, I don't really consider FFXII to be a real Final Fantasy game. To me the series died and should have been discontinued the moment that Sakaguchi was (effectively) ousted.

To me FFXII is like deciding to write a sequel to Lord of the Rings, yet instead of having J.R.R Tolkein write it, you call upon Dan Brown, and then maybe throw in a bit of 'Hello' magazine for good measure. To me, in a quest for marketability Squaresoft lost the the soul and essence of Final Fantasy, something that is still so beautifully encapsulated in FFIX.

Valid point, well made. Although I wouldn't go so far as drawing parallels between FFXII and Hello! magazine, it certainly wasn't a very successful departure from the classic 'FF Formula'.. even though it did retain a large amount of it, there was so much 'soul' lost.

But you're right, Squeenix's lust for teh moneyz did dilute FFXII. In 6 days we shall see if this has been rectified. :P

Eviction: Dragon Age: Origins

Mess with the bull, you get the horns. Bitch.

Indeed. Perhaps, a more accurate parallel would be to align FFX-2 with FHM.

Thankfully, Sakaguchi took a lot of "the soul" of the older FFs with him to Mistwalker. Sounds like you guys should play Lost Odyssey if you haven't already.

Haha, it was indeed. Guess the irony speaks for itself. :P

I've not played Lost Odyssey.. Mistwalker dissapointed me with Blue Dragon but when and if I find the funds I'll pick it up.

Perhaps, a more accurate parallel would be to align FFX-2 with FHM.

I guess this all comes down to, again, the perspectives here.

I loved FF XII as it ties into probably my favorite FF of the series which is Tactics. The shadowy political back story was all kinds of entertaining not to mention all the summons being ex bosses and such and having their piece in the story was just icing on the cake. Along with the fact that I am an artist and the concept art alone for the game in both flat art and 3D art was probably some of Square's best when it comes to the air ships and the towns thus far in the series. I still actually enjoy looking back over the art book for XII from time to time when I need inspiration.

It seems I'm always for the black sheep out of the way Final Fantasy considering I also enjoy VIII immensely.

*shrug*

Not that any of that influenced my eviction vote here anyhow. I'm just lazy. ^_^

Hmm... I'm thinking some sort of alternate history type plot, most likely a steampunky setting, though I can't really think of something wholly original. I suck at things like that. :P
