Hey! I'm on disc 3 now but just wanted to know what stealing depends on! Because i want to steal this item called 'devil plate' from a boss (a book in the library in alexandria castle after the attack from bahamut), buts it the hardest item to steal from it, since it comes up first upon detected.

So does anyone have any tips on how to increase the success of stealing? I have bandit equipped, but i havent got master thief yet

I think stealing rate is increased by either his level or his agility, I'm not too sure...I haven't played FFIX in a while.

Kuro could help you out more than I can. :D

Hehehe, thanks for the vote of confidence, B-man. ^_^

Actually, the ony real way to increase your success in stealing is to equip yourself with the Master Thief and Bandit abilities. I think speed does help a little, but not by much. :)

If you're fighting Tanny (Tantarian -- that killer library book in Alexandria), you can definitely count on Amarant and Freya to do physical damage, and you can just let Zid steal until you get the Demon's Mail (I think that's the Devil Plate you're talking about). So don't worry about Zidane losing out on physical attacks; if your team is strong enough, you can afford to let him steal instead of attack.

Good luck! ^_^

I'm not sure if this applies in 9 but sometimes when an emeny is under some sort of bad status like "sleep" they'll be more seceptible to steal. Otherwise it's just Master theif, bandit and a bit of speed that'll help you to steal. :P

ps Tantarian is irritating to kill and to steal. Keep at it

Heh. I don't know why you're spending your time trying to steal it from Tantatrian anyway. You'll get it eventually through other means. Really the only thing it's good for is healing when you use doomsday...

I find that stealing is easier when he is tranced.

Usually i sit in a boss fight just stealing again and again and again and so on and can never seem to get that final thing, then the boss makes Zid trance and i can finally steal it.

after spending an hour on it, i gave up and killed him with one of zidanes dyne moves! I wanted to steal it so i could learn the abilities on it now, instead of later. Anyway, wot abilitied does it have on it?

For the Demon's Mail? You can teach Steiner and Freya High Tide.

The only other abilities it has is the ability to absorb Shadow element attacks (like Doomsday, and it also raises your shadow element attacks.)

So.... it really may not be worth all the effort, unless you really, really, really, REALLY want it. :)

How do you get into the libary after bahamut attacked?

u no when bahamut attacks the castle, and dagger and eiko summon alexandria to protect it, and then you become zidane and the rest of the party in the castle. You have to go up to where dagger and eiko are.

Instead, where u start off as zidane in the hall of the castle, go into the left room, which is a library. If u go to the last row of books, u can face this book boss.

If you want to beat Tantarian earlier, you can do it when you go to Alexandria after Brahne dies in Disc 2. I'm not sure about this next bit...does he have different items than when you fight him on disc 3?

No, he's the same, and carries the same items no matter when you fight him. :)
