Dance Dance

Lets see where this goes.

Now this has been an issue that, to much of my surprise, has been getting some media attention. This is the issue of how kids of this generation are dancing. I dont know if this is an issue anywhere else in the world, but I know that it has been a growing debate in my community for several years. I would say that in order to get all the information you need about what kids are doing in schools now are somewhat shwon through this article.

So what do you think about the way kids are dancing today? Is it worse or better than the way the older generations danced before them?

My opinion?

I think that kids are pretty arrogant about this issue simply beacuse they will continue to do what they are doing, even more so if they are told not to do it.

I don't mind it really, I have done said dance once or twice with some party gals in a couple clubs back in Florida, good times.

I don't think it is worse or better, but it is definantly different.

Well, dancing is going to evolve just like any other cultural activity so I guess we all just need to get with the program. Though there is one type of dancing that girls do which I'm not terribly fond of because it makes them look very slutty and it's when they pair up with eachother and each one sticks a leg inbetween the other's two legs and they kinda just boogy there on the spot and it's a bit awkward to see at times... but obviously it gets a lot of boys drooling which is what they want. So I don't like the way that dancing has become so slutty in places, it should just be fun.

I think it would still be cool though if dances like the waltz or mamba were not dorky to do at school dances because they're actually pretty fun to do if you know how. Otherwise, it doesn't bother me really.

You know, when I was in high school we had a few school dances banned for just that sort of thing. There were no dances my junior year of high school, except for prom.
My opinion on the matter is, get over it. Sure, I don't particularly care for it myself, as I feel embarressed watching people practically "do it" with their clothes on, but I also don't place myself where I have to watch it.
I'm with Jules. Bring back the ball-room and swing dancing. That's fun stuff ^_~

The whole concept of "dirty dancing" here is just that - dirty. It used to be okay to go to a high school dance and see people dancing (keep in mind this was only what, three years ago for me) ... now you see these things on TV from the same schools close by and hear about kids freak dancing and whatnot..

I guess that to them, they're just dancing. They either are aware that they're not being discreet about what they want, or they don't understand what they're doing. They could just have a kinky side altogether, but for a supposedly academic environment, yes, it is inappropriate.

Uhhh, I think full on "grinding" is pretty nasty. I was at homecoming dancing with this guy and there was this line of like, 8 people full on grinding eachother XD They kept getting closer and closer and he shot me this look like "Omfg get me out of here =(" I dunno, it's not really that attractive.

But the lesser versions, yeah. You're just moving, you get into it. It's actually pretty fun. Though I'd way prefer old school dancing like the waltz just becuase I think it's cool how they have patterns and stuff. It'd be fun =)

I must say that alot of the dancing on film clips is very sexually and kids do mimic that in alot of ways, but past generations did do the same things as kids these days, but there is alot more kids these days aswell. It is the responsibility of the parents but also of classification boards to stop this sort of crap u see on TV

the grinding is ridiculous, they are hormone charged teenagers without anyone telling them their limits, so grinding is not surprising. i was away from that scene during high scvhool, but alot of crap like that went on. it is the responsibilty of the whoever is holding the social event to lay down the rules. IF you are morally offended by people grinding then speak out, i know i am offended by it, just as with any public display of affection that isn't necessary (you all know what that means, only a hug and kiss, but no need to look like your on the couch at home).

I hate going to dances :E I've been dragged to my fair share of school dances, and it's, um... well, let's just say I was sitting in a corner looking sinister the whole time until I eventually fell asleep. Although I woke up only to be pestered by druggies. It wasn't worth going for food, either. I just can't dance, it's plain and simple as that. I like dancing, I just can't do it very well (and I usually end up tripping and falling over onto furniture... yikes). And as arrogant as I may sound saying this, I won't stoop so low as to go and grind on some random guy just to appease my friend that wants me to "go out more and get a boyfriend". Disgusting. I'd rather not be able to dance if that's what dancing means nowadays.

I don't really care how kids dance, as long as I don't have to see it/be associated with it. But what I hate most is how CASUAL it is. You don't even have to know the person's name. And the fact this all happens on school grounds, that too...

But of course, that's because I'm not a normal teenager, I'm more of a fuddy-duddy than anything. A REAL dance party has pretty pretty princes and princesses and waltzes. >:|
