A leading condom manufacturer in Switzerland has created extra-small condoms for boys as young as 12 years old, the U.K.’s Daily Telegraph reported.
The condom, called the Hotshot, was produced after family planning groups and the Swiss AIDS Federation campaigned to have the condoms made following several studies that showed adolescent boys were not using proper protection when engaging in intercourse.
"The result that shocked us concerned young boys who display apparently risky behavior,” Nancy Bodmer, who headed the research, told the newspaper. “They have more of a tendency not to protect themselves. They do not have a very developed sexual knowledge. They do not understand the consequences of what they are doing and leave the young girls to take care of the consequences.”
Bodmer said the results of the study suggest that early prevention makes sense.
A spokeswoman for the company, Lamprecht AG, said the United Kingdom would be a “top priority” if they expanded abroad, especially since the U.K. has one of the highest rates of teen pregnancy in Europe.
A standard condom has a diameter of 2 inches; the Hotshot's is 1.7 inches.

Oh dear lord. I f'ing lol'd.
12 year old boys (12YoB) knockin' up 12 year girls sounds like the UK alright.
Although, to be honest, even if one of those 'Hotshots' were waved in front of a 12YoB he'd probably try to wear it as a hat.
My idea of sending anybody under 14 who's been 'jiggy wit it' to some kind of military discipline centre would work. Not to mention that it'd make some great TV.
Yeah, I really don't take this sort of thing seriously. I just hold my head up high and say 'Well atleast I ain't that stupid', then I immediately think 'Or maybe I just wasn't good enough. Meh', so yeah.
The sad thing is, 12YoB's would most likely randomly be given these 'Hotshots' from their parents, as a birthday present, otherwise they'll never even think of it.

Only it's Switzerland.
The Swiss have always been progressive, I'm not surprised by this. Some of their public restrooms have blue lights installed to hinder people from shooting up. It's not exactly an active solution but they do acknowledge that it happens and are at least hindering people from doing it (well, on their premises at least).
Eh, as far as the teeny condoms go--as far as I'm concerned, if young boys are going to have sex then I'd rather they use protection. Sad state of affairs but hey at least they're doing something; lest we have another Alfie Patten.

I don't understand where people can be against this.
I know a lot of people think teaching abstinence to children is the best way of doing things, but it's not like that's always gonna work. Offering protection isn't the worst idea, albeit the thought may be offensive to many. Either way, it's probably better for these children than the birth control methods endorsed by pharmaceutical companies.
I know plenty of people who got it on when they were way too young and had 'accidents.' It didn't always necessarily ruin their lives completely, but it certainly made living hell of them for a bit.

Just to clarify, I'm not against this.
But don't you think it's starting to get out of hand, specifically, here in the UK?
Girls in my school, in Year 9, are 'getting it on' without any thought to contraception or birth control methods - even worse, it's usually with guys in Years 9/10/11, or even those who've left highschool. Sure, the contraceptive methods are as much the guys responsibility as it the girls, but ironically, most guys just don't care what happens.
At any rate - it's not going to prove fruitful just reducing the diametre of condoms. Merely producing such things isn't going to make the boy go out and buy some, nor his parents, who don't suspect anything.

You figure making an extra-small condom would make 12-year-old boys not want to use that brand specifically, because, well, it's an extra-small-sized condom, and the last thing guys want to do (especially at that age) is admit they have a small penis, better yet buy a condom thats even smaller than a regular sized one.

Heard of it long time ago.
As I collected from other posters.
I think it is better to have these condoms, than being without them. But is just the girth of the condom that is made smaller, and not the length of the condom.
Still, much better to have safe sex; you don't want unwanted pregnancies and STD, that's why these condoms are made for.
+ Not all adult males have a girth of 2 Inch and length of 8 Inch. This well come in use to them as well.
But, as we follow the ideology of Technology Determinism; this thing here(12Year old boy's Condom) will become a necessity in the following years.
We are in 2010 and not 1990 now. We, as humans, have plunged quite further into the future. Our children will become more aware than what we were.
Not that I am saying our forefather did not knew such thing. But hey, you got me, no?

So the economy has finally targeted the under 13 generation with "family" products. Who else isn't really shocked by this?
