Not to mention we already pay for European-style healthcare for seniors. Really, I would have preferred an expansion of Medicare to include everyone, but ah well. And yeah, a lot of Americans are selfish. Or claim that government run healthcare is less efficient than privately run (it isn't).

I did hear an interesting discussion on it on NPR, which stated that the current largest voting population, the boomers, grew up in an era which bred strong government distrust and so tend to view any government program with extreme skepticism. A lot due to the way the government handled Vietnam. They say so far, my generation tends to take the opposite view, so that's some hope for the future.

We have always had the NHS (or at least I have, it's only been established for around 60 years), but healthcare varies up and down the country, mainly due to budgets, which is why you'll hear the term 'postcode (zip code) lottery' when it comes to the British healthcare service, which means some areas have better treatment for certain illnesses than others, such as cancer. Also, budgets can completely vary. One of the many healthcare trusts in the country, South London healthcare, is pretty much going into administration, however a trust in Birmingham has just built a brand-spanking new hospital building without breaking the bank. It's imbalanced, and my worry is, that it would wind up like this in the US, a much, much bigger country, and would be disastrous on a scale like that. :/

Hayfever got really bad today, despite the delughe we had at 9 this morning. Summer sucks...
