Do you believe in Fate?
What are your opinions of Fate? Do you believe in it, or do you believe you have control over your own destiny?

I am a firm believer in Fate and Free Will. They are intertwined in my eyes, eventhough they are complete opposites.

Free Will. I hate Fate (sorry, Light Warriors), and I know that I can do many things, and no one is controlling me.

I believe in fate, but everybody's fate is stronger. I have to believe in fate, I am a "Dream Seer." My life up untill now would make no sense and be physically impossible if fate didn't play an active role in our lives. I do not believe, however, that fate is the know-all or end-all of our lives, just that it plays a certain role in everybody's lives.

Fate is just an excuse for lazy fucks to sit back and let life control them rather than taking control of their lives.

I believe in it to a degree. Like if you have talent in art, you're fate probably will end up in an art career in some form if you're good enough. stuff like that.
At some point you're going to have to shift things and create your own destiney and shape your own outcomes as best you can because waiting for stuff to happen isn't going to work for anyone.

That's rather offensive, as the post above yours was me admitting to believing in fate. I don't believe "lazy fucks" have to HAVE an excuse to be lazy, at least not the ones I have met. No, it's more like "Fate led me to meet you here at this time." or "It was that person's time to die." Fate can be used as a religious point, so please watch what you say in the future.

Aww. XD Don't take it personally, it wasn't directed at you. And even if it was Tim's an asshole anyway :p <3 We all get that. Me especially.
Hmm I do but I don't. I believe I can do whatever the hell I want with my life, that there's no divine plan for me.. I'M the planner.. but by the same token I believe fate led me to my boyfriend. I retrace events in my life and it's funny how so many of them fell so perfectly in place that they lead us to each other. It's a great mystery. <3

What is really messed up is what happened earlier...
My friend and I was eating some chinese food at a chinese buffet and we got into the conversation of my unibrow. Yes, I have one, no it is not a complete solid thing.
Anyhow, he's like, you need to shave it etc... because girls don't like it etc... and I'm like I'm too lazy to do it and when I do do something about it it backfires.
Well, just as we were getting near the end of this discussion... I open my fortune cookie and guess what it said?
"You are pretty"
Talk about WTF? What is the chances of THAT happening, where the fortune cookie is related to the exact kind of topic you are discussing like that? Highly improbable, that is for sure.

WTF! OMFG! LOL! ROFLMAO!
I agree with Kat. If there is a God, then He knows about all the possibles scenarios of my life, and no just one scenario, because I can change my life progress doing many things.
Example: I was washing my hands after my meal. My mom was going to bath my little bro after. Because I am a Lazy Bum who never, never, never washed his hands after a meal ( now I'm doing it!!!! Really!!!!) , I don't know how the hell I decided to do it. And then, I zapped my hands, because there was a connection problem between my terma (A Water Heater... I don't know how it is in English) and my bath. So, if didn't have washed my hands, then my mom and brother would have died electrocuted.
See? Free Will. I was NOT destined to save my mom's life.
It only happened.

But the arguement of fate would say you were destined to not wash your hands that day.
For the issue of this debate, if you put God into the equation then you have to believe in fate some, yet depending on the faiths views on certain things, you would have to believe in free will as well because in many religions it is believed that God gave the people that was created free will.
Religion is one of my favorite topics...

What I don't get about God + Fate, however, is punishment. Why would He punish us for committing sins that we're supposedly destined for anyway? Why get punished for something that He wrote on your divine plan?
So yeah, most likely not. If there is God of course.

I believe that things happen for a reason, ergo. MooglePeru's example. Not exactly fate, but if one thing hadn't have happened, something else would have, and so on.

You only have control over your destiny if you take control. Else, your path shall direct you.
I do and I don't believe in fate. As it was once said, I don't like knowing I have no control over my future. Everything happens for a reason. Oh sure, there are instances of fate, almost like a divine intervention, but it's pure coincidence.
One from my own life a few months back.
I chose to get an earlier bus. On that bus, I saw a friend I had not seen for three years. On the home journey, the bus was caught in heavy traffic, and so we had even more time to rekindle the fond memories and catch up, on everything. We talked for a good two hours, and it was incredible.
That was because I chose to get an earlier bus. That wasn't an accident. Everything else that happened was purely coincidental.
I can't deny, there have been some past examples that do feel like fate. Me and my woman of two years have both sacrificed a lot to remain together, gone through so much, split several times, but nothing can keep us apart. We seem fated to be with one another.
I don't believe in God. I just believe in a higher being pulling the strings.

Fate, or destiny, should be viewed like time. If you look at there being a possibility of time-travel, then you must also realize going into the past and killing yourself would ultimately change the furture to make it impossible for you to exist. Fate is the same thing. Free-will, determination, coincidence, every little factor can be summed up to fate. The things we experience build our character, and character builds will. Ultimately, if you can say fate is all things you had no control over, you can logically conclude that fate gave you everything in life, from personallity to situation.
For example: You had been robbed several times in your life by people you trusted. This led, in result, to you having low or no trust in people when it came to your belongings. Because of this unease, you lose a friendship when something you owned was lost and you thought your friend had taken it. Fate led the whole thing, in essence.
I don't believe that completely, but I understand it, thus why I explained it. I think fate can play parts in your life, strong parts which can give you choices. Your choices directly influence the next fated scenario and so forth. Honestly, being a philosopher, I can't really say one way or another wether fate is eal or not, but it is an interesting topic.
