Vyran looked about the factory. In front of him, a cluster of pistons stood pulsating, driving with an overwhelming force so unnatural, he was certain they were releasing tremors. To his right, a primitive machine was grinding ancient gears, no doubt turning the wheels of the destruction process. Plumes of dust and smoke arose as the grating sound pushed its way into his senses. On the left, a tattered conveyer belt edged its way backwards, taking with it the slaughtered carcasses of human prisoners. He watched as jackhammers pounded the remains to a scarlet pulp, where they were then fed into a sifting machine, no doubt sorting the larger pieces from the significantly minute ones. The almost liquidated form was then injected into the elder machine, where he presumed it was converted into raw energy, to drive the pistons, excelling the grand turbines above the surface. The sickening display caused a brief smile to flit across Vyran’s solemn features.

Lost in paradise.

As Biancolo looked over his shoulder, he took one last opportunity to admire the landscape. The burning sun was setting against a crimson sky, tainting the natural azure with rich hues of orange. The road below the bridge was empty, and had been abandoned since he arrived. To the side of him, vast, luscious fields of natural carnations and crops created an epic patchwork effect; one he had not seen since the days of his long-forgotten childhood. Closing his eyes, he once again heard the now familiar voice in his head.

Time to earn your keep.

When he opened his eyes again, Biancolo’s vision burned with an incredible sensation. He felt himself rising, elevated from the bridge below. Though he was not in control, he knew not to struggle. His arms became outstretched to his side, and he heard words muttered in a language he could not decipher. Yet he knew exactly what they meant.

On the day of the scarlet sun, so too shall the land be met with flame.

An almighty flash escaped Biancolo’s body, temporarily blinding him. As his sight began to settle, he could see the entire area around him had been decimated, laid to waste, by the effect. The verdant fields were now no more than scorched earth, all life bled dry by the condemning burn. As he descended, he felt his body becoming his again, and wondered to just what extent he was going to be cursed with untold destruction being his work.

You really shouldn’t exceed your own thought processes, Biancolo. Damn, he thought. Psychotic sorcerer and mind-reader. When the time comes, you too will accept the events that took place, and why your vessel, above all else, is the one to carry us both to salvation. Remember that.

The final two words hammered into him like a knell. He was right. After all, who else had the ability to resurrect entirely, in mind, body, and spirit. All he had to do was bear the brunt of these atrocities just a little longer, and he would receive his desires.

A smile appeared on Biancolo’s exhausted visage.

Now you’re learning.
