Although generally I don't like sigs - they're big and annoying and seem really, really fuckin' 90's - I gotta ask, Sean, what's your current bottom sig image from? It looks neat.

So megaman has gone from a teen robot like he been since about megaman 4 to a guy who looks like he's in the prison shower waiting for you to drop the soap?
I mean this isn't even "skinny Caucasian megaman" from the box art :p

It is technically not a real signature by modern standards.
The girl is just a render image from some anime or an anime artist at least. I really don't know. The background on the other hand is a blend someone on Deviant art created that I found recently. They took the nice white hallway from the hospital in Jacob's Ladder and turned it Silent Hill like. So, I figured this young lady deserves to have a background befitting her image.
Ultimately, all I did was play with a lot of layer blending options and opacity and a little bit of Burn, Dodge, Blur and Sharpen here or there. I think it is a decent stand alone piece in terms of showing my progress at least. Before neither picture belonged together but they almost seem right for each other now. I am assuming some effects would help but I think I'll leave it as is and post it up in a couple graphics websites I go to and let the resident graphics gurus rip it apart in a critique.

It adds to the hilarity of it all. It almost feels like Capcom is just plain trolling all the disappointed Mega Man fans whom thought the blue bomber dead after Capcom more or less seemed to have dropped the Mega Man franchise recently.

Dare I ask what a real modern signature is...?
I guess I'm just used to a forum where for the most part signatures aren't used. I didn't realise they were such a big part of the general internet community these days, they seem so old-fashioned. I remember I had some great sigs on here at one point.
I like Jacob's Ladder, it's a good film But... what did you actually do to make the signature? You took someone else's background... and placed upon it someone else's image... I dunno it seems a bit plagiaristic to me. It doesn't seem like you're advancing your artistic skills at all, in favour of using other people's work and using a few brushes on it until it looks nice. Does that make sense?

Actually that is generally what modern signature making is.
Though, the best definition would be the blending of 3D elements, Vector art, 3D effect elements, renders from various manga, anime, video games, etc, brushes of whatever variety on a canvas in a image manipulation program to create a visually creative art piece.

Like I said it isn't a real signature to begin with. This is just me learning how to blend properly and I liked the outcome. No one can lay official claim on the background anyways due to it being from a movie to begin with and I am not making any money from this at all not to mention I am not flaunting this all over the internet. I simply used it for a training exercise.
As for whatever this has to do with my artistic skills I am in fact advancing my artistic skills considering you technically need to know this stuff if you're ever going to really use Photoshop efficiently(and some of this I simply didn't know the finer points of even after attending art school). Especially if you plan to make money with said skills and the further I am learning this stuff the further I am finding signature creation itself is an art form that has it's own processes. I won't be using these same techniques in all of what I do(though after watching the Star Wars Episode III concept art DVD some of it is valid). I still draw and digitally paint on the side my own work. This is just a different way of going about making digital art.
This is especially helping me visualize and pre-plan better as well. My composition mechanics have always needed work and these are much needed baby steps.

I've heard about it, but never saw it until yesterday. I will watch it more often. It's very inspirational.

Hmm. I'm kinda glad I did Sociology now. :p
My frickin' ear is really starting to do my head in. I had real problems yesterday and I've had to take today off. I hope they can do something before Thursday at least; I've got a date.

Sociology was fun, but Media Studies was more so.
Went to docs about ears. They are backed up with wax, as I thought but the wax is not soft enough to disperse by syringe. Another 3 shifts of muddling on and asking customers 3 times what they want, whilst I stuff my ears with olive oil.. Argh! >_<
