What's wrong with this place?
Seriously, I wonder.
Years ago this place used to be active and full of cool and inteligent people. I can't find a bunch of these cool oldbies here anymore, and it seems like this place got infested with dumbass morons who use the AOL-dictionary containing nothing but the 'words' "u", "tha", "wuz" and so on. Not to forget, it takes hours for a new interresting post to be made.
What happened here? What?!

Indeed. It's rare these days we get a whole batch of half decent newbies. it's more one in a hundred type thing stay to leave an impression on the board.

I've not been here that long, but I hope my posts, even if the are a little contravertial(sp?...and I got an A in English, the same...) help in some way to rekindle what you feel has been lost...
I've been posting on another forum for about 4 years, now. Hope it works out here as well as it does there!

notice the well presented, well written post. n00bs should take note of Alexander and follow. The effort to spell, and express his mind will clearly mean he'll go far on these boards.
Haven't noticed you around, so Hi from me =P

Thanks, and a big Hi back to you! It doesn't take much effort to put you mind to writing...all you have to do is write from the heart but still use your head so you don't get jumbled in your meanings.
As for spelling, if you see an "i" where there should be an "I", it's because my keyboard is a bit on theold side, and I'm terribly lazy so it's going to be a while before I clean it!

I get really quick to anger when it comes to 'txt' type. Maybe when you're limited to 256 characters like on a mobile phone, it's acceptable; but when you're on places like here where the limit is a lot higher - there's no need to take off one letter really.
I just think it's plain lazy.
Well done Alexander =) *praise*

It's more of a mature facter really. Just some people act dumb to get attention. A good reason why a few people got banned resently.
And the whole lol, tha, peeps(hate that one), and wazzup stuff should be used on moble phones and what not.
I'm a good example of this, you should see some of my older post I have made.

I never tried to seek attention as a n00b, I wanted to try and figure out how things worked before I just walked out and started making topics like: "How do I get a sig?" or "I need more gil", Those annoy me more than the internet lingo.

Well, I can't say anything about those people who have had the net for ages and still talk like that, but people who are new to the net as well as a forum usually use 'u' and what-have-ya because they're not that good at typing. It takes some people I know ages to type, so they shorten things to make it quicker.
But I don't think people should harp on about the old days. I made that mistake at FantasySquare when I left the staff. Talking with other oldies about the 'golden age' of FS. It simply makes new people feel outcasted and put down, like they can never be what other people were. There becomes 2 tier of member - oldies, and newbies. Little clique's just because everyone talks about something passed instead of trying to make the present work and accept new people. I'm relatively new here and hope that I've fitted in. I can act like an arse, I know that. But I try to make everyone feel comfortable, at least. I'm not on a soapbox, but I don't see what making a topic telling the current members that it used to better until they, the 'dumbasses', turned up is going to achieve. Work at making the board something you do like if you're unhappy, instead of living in the past.

There's nothing good about typing like a moron, or acting like one, antman. It is not easier nor it makes typing quicker, and it's definately not easier for people to read over acronym garbage either. Heck, when I was a newbie to the internet in 1997, I made a bunch of typing errors, but I never was an acronym-dumbass.
As for the fact that it used to be better long ago, you'd almost say that it's objective instead of subjective, as the majority of oldbies agree with me.
The new people need to integrate themselves to the people that have already been here for a long time, if not from the actual beginning. Not the other way around.

Well, some people type different when they first get the net. Of course typing in text speak will come easier to a person who first gets the net in the world in texts.
And I see where you're coming from. It was the same thing at FS. I was the admin there, like you were here, so there's another similarity. But both sides have to work towards fitting in. If the old members refuse to bundge, insisting the newbies make themselves fit in, nothing would ever change. Which would be immensely boring. Times change. Plus, how are they supposed to fit in when the older members aren't even helping them, instead just standing over them and waiting until they've 'reached their level'?

And I'm going to completely and totally agree with antman here. I think he summed it up very well.

Because the stereotype newbie nowadays just posts to, well, post, unaware of what he is actually doing and unaware that he's acting like a moron, using dumb messenger acronym 'slang'. I don't know, though that's just me, I think at least normal grammar is a logic online. OK, if you're talking to a friend personally on MSN, AOL, or whatever, then use your slang, or whatever language you talk with to your friend (and not even there I use acronym garbage).
A community is a community, from a forum to a cult or whatever. And really, typing like "omg wut is dat can sum1 tell me ill B ure freind!1" on a forum is the same as shouting Turkish in a German community; it's trash.
I didn't say there should be no changes, indeed, without changes everything would be boring. But what I see happening is that pretty much newbies are 'taking over' in some way. Have you noticed how Blue, Silverwolf or any other person who has been participating and working on this site for a long time, aren't active at all at the board?

What, and things are never taken over by newer people, as the older ones move on or concentrate on other things? Should I expect to go to my infant school and find the same teachers? To have the same dentist for my entire life? I shouldn't allow new friends into my life in case they tempt me away from hanging out with the same social group I was in at school? I'm not trying to offend, but from as far as I can see, you've been away for a long time. You can't expect to come back and it be like it was when you were here. You just instantly sliding back into centre of things, with all that you remember still being here. It doesn't happen. Maybe if new members felt more welcome, they'd participate in a more full way. Whereas at the moment, they feel ignored, so they feel that if they post at lot people will start to notice them, and they'll fit in.

It doesn't work like that. No, you just don't let every random idiot join your usual group of friends, indeed. Every group, clique, cult or anything like it gets people that want to join them all the time, but they don't just let the new people in. Why not? Because these people will have to prove themself first. That's the thing most newbies pretty much can't do nowadays.
Yes, I've been gone for a while because, guess what, run my own business and I constantly have about 5 or 6 websites I have to work on. Lest you forget I've been at UFF9Site ever since it started (I was member number 4, in fact) and I've been adminning this place for years. You can't blame me for taking a break.
And yes, if not obvious enough, I think this place changed. Though it's pretty obvious I'm not the only oldbie who thinks about it like that.
