Even more FFXIV Details

AP | August 6, 2009

The latest scans from Japan reveal some more information on the locations and gameplay of Final Fantasy XIV.

First up, we have some names for some of the locations we'll be visiting in the game. There are three cities with three distinct styles announced - a Desert City, Uldaha, a Forest City, Gridania and an Ocean City, Rimsa Rominsa.

The new system of controlling characters is known as the Armory System. Players will be able to change jobs freely - it's as simple as changing your weapon - and youc an do that anywhere as long as you have another weapon in your inventory.

This means if there's a party short of a caster, you could switch to a magic weapon and then when you leave the party revert to being a fighter or any other class.

All equipment boosts certain areas of combat or ability of a character, so if you want to be a power-house in one particular area you can switch your equipment to push yourself in that direction. Instead of levels or skills, everything will revolve around the 'skill level' of the items you are holding.

A solo player in the game could for example carry both a staff and a sword, switching to the staff whenever they take a larger amount of damage in order to heal themselves. Changing is simple - just switch weapons - so it's not a difficult process to carry out.

Traditional Final Fantasy series jobs like 'Warrior' and 'Black Mage' are being avoided with them replaced by new, fresh ideas.
