Final Fantasy XIII sells 5.5 million units worldwide
May 18, 2010
Square Enix have announced that they've sold 5.5 million units of Final Fantasy XIII in the 2009/2010 fiscal year in their annual fiscal report.
That's sales from launch up until the end of March - several months on sale for Japan and a couple of weeks in the west.
The sales breakdown showed the game selling 1.85 million copies in Japan, 1.79 million in North America and 1.77 million copies in Europe. The figures were rounded out by another 140,000 copies sold elsewhere in Asia and in other territories.
Final Fantasy XIII's closest rival was Dragon Quest IX, which sold an impressive 4.26 million copies in Japan alone. Dragon Quest will struggle to do as well in the West, though, and will likely not catch up with Final Fantasy XIII's figures.
