Final Fantasy V arrives on the Japanese Virtual Console next week

AP | January 14, 2011

Square Enix fans will be able to Ride Boco, Change Classes and Clash on the Big Bridge in Japanese from next week when Final Fantasy V hits the Virutal Console for Wii.

The addition of Final Fantasy V as a download means FF fans will be able to download the title straight to their Wii and play it there.

It'll cost 900 Wii points, and launches on the 18th January. Mod duckroll over on NeoGAF points out that's the same day that Square Enix is holding its First Party Production Conference. Could that be a hint? Well, maybe.

For the sake of history it's worth noting that Final Fantasy I, II, III and IV were announced for the Virtual Console at the same time that Final Fantasy IV: The After Years and Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a Darklord were announced for the service.

Final Fantasy IV then launched on the Virtual Console in Japan the same week that The After Years' first chapter released - so Square Enix is no stranger to these 'poetic' launch dates - though they're usually kept well secret, unlike this which is proudly displayed on the Nintendo Website.

Is something new for Final Fantasy V in the works? Only time will tell. We'll be covering the 1st Production Department Premiere Conference Live, so be sure to check back here on UFFSite or RPG Site on the 18th for more details!
