Square Enix Europe confirms Final Fantasy III for iPhone to head West

AP | February 23, 2011

Square Enix Europe have just confirmed that Final Fantasy III's iPhone version is to head West, confirming on their blog and in a press release that the game will head West and arrive on the Apple App store in March.

We reported on the Japanese existence of the game earlier today - it's a port of the Nintendo DS version of the classic Final Fantasy title with enhanced graphics and music.

Earlier today, Famitsu reported that the visuals of the game have been fully upgraded to high resolution for the iPhone version, and the sound is also being updated from the synths that were used for the DS version.

It'll use an on-screen d-pad to control movement on the overworld, while battle controls are simply managed by tapping the battle options direct on the screen and then tapping the enemy you want to hit with said attack. The DS version was surprisingly light on touch screen gameplay, so this is actually an improvement!

Square Enix themselves have now confirmed these reports. Our sister site RPG Site reviewed Final Fantasy III DS way back around its 2006 release, and you can check out the original review through that link. We've also got a ton of concept artwork and screenshots of the game over in the Media Vault, so be sure to check them out!

How about FFIII for the PlayStation Network? Europe would welcome it.
