Square Enix to skip FF5 for DS, Remake FF6?
April 6, 2009
Square Enix's recent announcement that they would be bringing classic Final Fantasy to the Virtual Console was greeted as
good news all round
by fans, but the details of the announcement have led to some interesting speculation.
Through Nintendo's GDC 2009 press conference and some press releases shortly thereafter, Square Enix announced
Final Fantasy I,
II,
III,
IV
and
V
for Nintendo's Virtual Console in Japan, while promising to bring
I
and
IV
to Western shores also.
The notable exception here from the stable of 2D main-series Final Fantasy titles is Final Fantasy VI, or III in the US. Since Final Fantasy III and IV DS fans have been expecting a release of V and VI on the console also - but now fans believe that Square Enix may be skipping V and remaking the more popular VI for the console instead, explaining the lack of a Virtual Console release for FFVI.
Whatever the case, the truth is sure to be revealed at either E3 or TGS this year.
