Advent Children Creators talk Changes

April 10, 2009

Some of the key talent involved in bringing the world of Final Fantasy VII to life in the all new extended cut of spin-off movie Advent Children have spoken to the Japanese press about the changes they’ve made for this ‘Complete’ version of the movie and just why they’ve made them while at the first Japanese screening.

The creators note that they made small parts to lots of areas of the movie they were unhappy with previously. Many of these won’t be noticed by fans, they believe – in some scenes subtle changes like facial expressions have been tweaked and changed from the original cut of the movie in an attempt to make the animation more realistic.

As has been shown in many screens and trailers for the movie, one new element is lots of added blood in the fight scenes. They wanted the fights to appear more real and brutal, especially after the direction many scenes took in Crisis Core.

They have made the same effort to portray the Geostigma disease more realistically, adding scenes that show people suffering from it.

At the end of Cloud and Sephiroth’s fight his iconic ‘Omnislash’ move has now been tweaked even further, becoming a closer mix of the original version and the Advent Children version, also adding some extra parts they have wanted to add for some time.

Case of Denzel was intended to be a bonus feature for quite a while, but it took the team a while to settle on traditional animation for the feature. It has no connection with Last Order, which has now been replaced in the canon by Crisis Core.

Case of Denzel is around 26 minutes long. As usual, Tetsuya Nomura handled character design for the original characters for the movie, but he also attended the voice acting recording sessions.

The OVA also features Chocobos, which were absent from Advent Children. This confirms Chocobos are indeed alive and well still in the FF7 universe!

The limited edition packaging is designed by the same person who designed the packaging for the regular movie. The version of the movie bundled with the PS3 console has a different character design. There will not be a second printing run of the limited edition.

Chances are the overseas release will use the same box art.

Finally, Nomura has a suggested viewing order of the content on the BluRay Disc: Turbulence of FF7:AC, Reminiscence of FF7, Reminiscence of FF7 Compilation, Story of Denzel – and finally, Advent Children Complete.

He also says he hopes fans enjoy the new and final cut of the movie.
