Now Xbox 360 FF13 Adverts swamp PS3 websites

AP | February 15, 2010

After ensuring the first Final Fantasy XIII TV advert was Xbox 360 exclusive Microsoft's aggressive advertising continues - this time by swamping large Playstation-specific websites with Xbox 360 FF13 adverts.

Playstation Universe has been taken over by FF13, but not in the way you'd expect, with every advert on the PS3-specific website dedicated to the Xbox 360 version of the game.

The adverts proudly ask readers to "Preorder now for Xbox 360!" and link to the Microsoft-controlled FF13 on 360 website when clicked.

This is a further indication that Microsoft may have an exclusive advertising deal with Square Enix. Square Enix declined to comment on the lack of PS3 logos in the TV ad, but we'll ping them again over this one. You can find a screencap of the 360 ads on PSU at the bottom of this piece.

FF13 will be out on March 9th, and if you're getting the game or the bundle we highly advise you get your preorders in! Amazon has the Xbox 360 version here and the Playstation 3 version here. There's a Limited Edition Strategy Guide for collectors, too. Here's the link to preorder the Limited Edition Xbox 360 bundle, too.

@BanditKingLOL There was nothing wrong with BanditKing's comment, it made perfect sense. The problem is that people seem to think because Final Fantasy originated on Nintendo consoles it was somehow already a huge western success which it really wasn't.

It was huge in Japan and the games that made it over here were reasonably successful. I got my FF start on my SNES and worked backward from FFVI. But when FFVII came out on the PSOneit mainstreamed the sereis and made it a global blockbuster success, meaning that most of the gamers who currently play FF in the West got their start playing FFVII and don't associate the brand with Nintendo as much as they do Playstation. The aggressive marketing push is morre likely coming from SE to make sure that people understand it is coming out for the X360 so they don't end up losing boatloads of money for taking a gamble. Yoichi Wada will be sweating bullets waiting for the 360 numbers to come in.

On topic, if I was PSU I would be pissed that a X360 ad was running on my site for a multi plat game. It creates confusion and sends fanboys into nerd rages that spill over all over the place.

    Hey BanditKing....

    You're an asshat!

"Personally I would much rather see MS not blowing money to pretend "PlayStation" games are theirs"

Final Fantasy started on the NES, then moved to Super Nintendo before coming to PSOne for the SEVENTH INSTALLMENT. Hardly a PlayStation exclusive especially when Sony don't OWN the franchise. If anything Sony fans like yourself are just giving the PS3 a worse name than it deserves.

    Your comment is fail!

While that may be true for standard advertisements something like a whole background change is handled more manually and likewise payed for heftily.

As someone who understands website promotion half of the time you don't specifically choose what adverts you get. You're signed up to a specific service which digs through the code in your site and directs "relevant" advertising towards your site. IF MS are making a big push on marketing FF13 then this will crop up more frequently on advertising services. These services then put them onto relevant gaming sites PS3 specific or not.

This is just pathetic, MS is pushing so hard and for what? The 360 user base wont support this title like Mass Effect or Gears of War, its a futile effort. Personally I would much rather see MS not blowing money to pretend "PlayStation" games are theirs, I would like to see MS return to form like last gen and focus on new IP's that can differentiate their brand. If you dont agree with this then your the fanboy. They are wasting money, and the irony thats lost on them is that they have to pay for what PLayStation was getting anyway. GTA content, yup. Eternal Sonata, yup. Tales of Vesperia, yup, Devil May Cry, just pick one all of them were coming to PS3 anyway. MS needs to realize that Xbox is not PlayStation and thats a good thing, they need to cater to their fanbase and they will see more success then by playing the "me too" game.
