Do you guys really think that they would "downgrade" the PS3 build? That doesn't make any sense. The only reason I could see Square doing that is because they don't have enough hardware resources (with a separate sets of assets required for each platform), which I doubt is the case. The reality is probably one of a few options. A: The original screen shots were taken from dev machines (PC) and not from an actual build. Before a game is pushed to a console there is quite a bit of processing that takes place in order to optimize for that platform B: The original shots are from an actual build of the game running on the PS3 (notice the lower poly count in the necklace) and the newer shots are taken from the xbox build C: The game was having inconsistent performance and they needed to optimize...simple as that. u guys are nuts..the E3 gameplay showed for 360 was way prettier than the screenshots (new and old). Square never had graphical supremacy in this generation and am sure that both 360 and PS3 can handle it easily. The new screens look have definately lost its sharpness. I really do not like the color/hue differences between the older and newer build. I was really excited at earlier screens and gameplay. Now, this game is becoming a graphical letdown. Just the color difference in the first set of screen shots does it for me. Not lookin good in my opinion.

this is a process of game development, first screens were running on the pc's with multicore cpu's and quadro video cards with everything maxed out... when the game was almost complete benchmarks were run on other platforms such as ps3 and xbox360 when developers noticed frame drops they were forced to downgrade some textures and do some shader reprogramming which resulted in some quality drops but gain some framerate boost... The main point is the gameplay, it must play like a butter not a choppy old car. If you want to get the best quality just get the game for pc and make sure u have a biffed up pc for it.

I can't wait for this game, I'm probably gunna get the ps3 version over the 360 because I have a feeling that the 360 version is going to have more than one dvd compared to one Blu ray disc. But graphically they're going to look the same mabey a slight advantage for both(for example lets say textures look better on ps3 but shadows look better on 360, totally an example and not true).
To thablinksta & killswitchmad, what about games that are in development for PS3 first, or that games were ported from PS3 to 360? They STILL came out to be running & looking better on 360! Plus any exclusive that PS3 has can easily pull out the same kind of graphics or even better graphics on the 360 in less development time & money. That's a fact.
They don't make multiplats on the lowest common denominator, they make multiplats on the one thats easierst to program for. The 360 is easier to program for, and porting games to the PS3 doesn't mean half ass job, it means more effort because of the poor programming architecture used to interface with the hardware. If the PS3 truly was the superior console for graphics, then multiplats would look better on the more powerful console, but they don't, and thats because PS3 is not that superior. You're pulling some serious fanboy statements with no theory or evidence to back them up. so QFT.

Why are people blaming this on the 360...blame this on square. The 360 has titles that look better than those new screen shots. And let us mention that I doubt that those are 360 screen shots, but ps3 screen shots. There is no reason to downgrade the ps3 version for the 360. I'm sure this is just either a mistake or something is wrong. This is the only site that I've seen these screen shots coming from so they might have some inaccurate information.

WTF are you talking about? I could barely make out anything you are trying to say, your english is terrible. There is no discussion, the 360 cannot compare to the PS3's graphical power. None what so ever. If you knew anything, than maybe you would understand why multiplatform games for the most part look better on the 360. When A developer is making a game that is for more than one console, they make it to the lowest common denominator. Between the PS3 and 360, that's the 360. After which they then port the game over to the other console. When you port a game over to another console, it's like doing a half ass job. The PS3 is not being used to it's full potential. If you still don't understand, which I'm sure you don't, I have an example for you. Imagine you have 2 cups. One cup is bigger than the other. Let's say the bigger cup is the PS3 and the smaller cup is the 360. Now our goal is to fill up one cup completely with water and then pour that water from that cup to the other. Still with me? If we filled up the bigger cup and then poured that bigger cup into the smaller cup, it would overflow. But if you fill up the smaller cup and then pour that into the bigger cup, it would not spill and there would still be space for more water. That extra space being wasted, is the potential they are not using for the PS3. If you still don't understand than I'm sorry, you're just another ignorant fanboy.
In Lightning's picture you can see that original is CG and the second is the In Game version of that, but its still the early build the the engine as they stated about the release of the demo with ACC. I am thinking that they CG is like a goal they want to reach with their game engine, but we will have to see when the game is done.

Maybe it is because on the PS3 it'll use CG for cutscenes and on 360 it'll render real time. HD CG will take too much space on the DVD.
The top ones are CGI and the bottom ones are what Squeenix has been able to get out PS3... Xbox 360 has nothing to do with this since it's only actually been shown just this year working on Xbox 360.
The full game is release this year in Japan, that should be the bench mark. Japan will compare the demo with the release version. SE will be compared to Uncharted 2 and Ratchet if they down grade the graphics to fit on the XBOX limited system then the game will flop.
Those are not Taget renders or CGI. Take a look at the first gameplay footage from 2006. This game was ready in 2007, but thx to MS it was delayed so both versions would luanch at the same time. For most 360 owners, this is there first console and think of it as love at first sight. Nothing you can say or do to make them see the truth. It has been retooled so that one version doesnt look better than the other. Hence why it was delayed another 3 years. Was it dumbed down? Ofcourse it was. And if you still do not think it was then lets look at uncharted 1. Multiplats are limited to 8gigs wile PS3 exclusives are limited to 50gigs. Like someone else said in this forum, only reson games look better on 360 is becuase MS paid them to do it that way. If your still blind on the matter, then just look at PS3 exsculisives.
MGR is nothing like MGS (just like a FF-action games) all of them are fails or the MGS-card on the psp which is a fail. regrading MGS4, i bet you douchei finished MGS 1st run in 5hrs. and the 55min movie it is what MGS games to present an amazing story, so stop whining. in any case FF13 graphics are now = to LR and SO4 (both xbots games) which is an epic fail no need to find excuses for SE or your heater system.
The screens that you are looking at are not the older build on the top and the newer on the bottom. The top screen is the newer build and the bottom screen is from the demo which was stated as a very early build.

I think the reason for the downgrade is the 360. I COULD BE WRONG, but lemme tell you what i think. 360 can't handle the magnitude of games that the ps3 can due to hardware. (mainly the dvd issue) So Square Enix tried to make this game, but now they have to downgrade it because they are discovering that the 360 cannot handle it. Now everybody's response to this is gonna be "oh, what about the multiplat games that looked better on the 360 than on the ps3?" Well look at it from a developer's standpoint. You have a more powerful system with a smaller install base (PS3), and a less powerful system with a larger install base (360). It is in the developer's best interest to develop the game on the 360 because it makes the task of porting to something more powerful easier. It's also in their interest due to install base. It would take more work to optimize for a powerful system, and port to a less powerful system. That is why multiplat games look better on the 360...
You people really dont get it...... THE ORIGINAL IMAGES ARE TARGET FOOTAGE THEY WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN IN-GAME ON EITHER OF THE SYSTEMS!! And actually alot of multiplatform games currently run better on a 360 because it generally is the lead platform. Look at CoD 2 for instance it ran silky on a 360 but was very choppy and ran with blurred textures on the PS3, Not because the PS3 is underpowered but because the lead development platform was the 360. The same goes for Ghostbusters and Bioshock.
Im glad its coming to the Xbox 360, I have had a FF curse since 7 but maybe it was a sony curse..lets hope, I may get to finish a FF game. I think that the birds face actually looks better in the later rended picture but the guy with the sword looks like it needs work. But lets all remember the games not out yet, so maybe they will continue to improve it. Just to reduce the fear that some people have, some games are still being polished weeks before they go gold.

I will be so glad if the 360 version of final fantasy gets , as most of the times on multyplatform titles,better than its ps3 counter part,a thing that could happen in metal gear rising also......i will laugh my a@@ out,just as i did in the ps3 originally oriented and developed ghostbusters,virtua fighter5,unreal tournament 3 ,dmc4 2 name a few...Maybe all of you who argue dont get it quite yet...its in the hands of the developer the outcome,both systems have their pros and cons,and if you give it time,you can see wonders in both worlds..By making a game and releasing its port somewhat next year for another system,the developers have the chance to look what they did wrong and could have been avoided,so they usually make better ports...if they are not lazy(which means they are a bad studio for games to begin wth..),or they dont have the amount of money(significant factor...if a company in any job was paying me a lot more for harder work,it could motivate me to get the best of me)or the time(since not always the publisher,another important factor,has the patience for better results when they just want to through the damn game released b4 the developers gets to see what went wrong and do anything about it.) Either way there is no point in debating the original shots look way better, the hair, face, and texture detail all look superior. In the old shots the hair looks more natural not showing any "joints" meaning no visible spots where the hair textures were joined to one another. Honestly this is a let down to me as SoulCalibur on Dreamcast has that exact same kind of static looking design. I don't know whats going on here, I just really hope this is not a result of getting the game to run on both platforms. Im no fanboy but that would just suck

Are you guys blind? The game actually looks like a PS3 game now. The first trailer that the first screens were taken from are probably target footage. Square always does this with their games. The first few trailers look better than the end product. Also, it does in no way look anything like a PS2 game. It still looks amazing and if your brand loyalty is blinding you to that fact than I have no pity upon you. Fanboys are the bane of the gaming industry. Crawl into your Sony cave and cry to the heavens, they're not going to hear you over the sounds of accounting and them getting their paychecks off of their loyalty. why would they downgrade both versions... theres no reason to change the graphics because of the 360 version. Ever think the graphics team just wanted a different view of the game? plus the game has been delayed many times. EVer think the ps3 is the reason? When will you people realise it has nothing to do with the platform if it did then it would be the 360 version thats downgraded not the PS3 version! The consoles both have there pros and cons but when it comes to the number crunching they are practically identical on power. All these differences are because the original screens are doctored "Target" screenshots of what Square were looking to come as close as possible to! and instead of moan you should be congratulating them on a fine job! infact this is probably the only game I've seen thats so close to it's "Target" images!
Vanille's top image have clear colors while the bottom image is more greener & blurred. I actually love Lightning's bottom image. The color depths, dark lighting, etc. I'm still waiting more of this images before drawing any conclusions.

Final Fantasy 13 was going to look amazing, but because of the 360 it has been dumb down to PS2 graphics. I hate SquareEnix for what they have done to this game. I'm still going to play it though.
